I can enter some info about Whiskey on Hydra. Everyone, who will login will read it... but my English is not very good, if somebody will create that "info" I will insert it... and what info should be there, what need Whiskey?

Hydra is translated (corrected) for English by Whiskey, so I think that I owe that him.

Thank you Vandhall, you are a star!

At present there is little further information. Clearances for exit have been obtained but once a means to give financial help is know you will hear about it immediately.
Meanwhile I am attempting to enlist the support of a British paper, well known for its support for "our boys", The Sun.

Hi Everyone,
I visited Johnnie on Thursday evening, and gave him all your best wishes, naming everyone I remembered! I took him some grapes from all of us.
Johnnie looks much better. He smiled and seemed very happy with the grapes, started on them immediately! Luckily I'd got them washed at the hospital shop...
He also was pretty chatty, kept trying, I think,to describe how he'd been taken ill.

Mohammed Hassan told me Johnnie's passport has now been renewed. AED 5,500 has so far been collected towards his ticket.

I called the Royal Naval Benevolent Fund. They gave me another number to call,(the line was bad so I didn't get the name: Commonwealth ?? something or other). They said our best bet is to call the British Embassy and ask them to call the Royal British Legion.

From what I was told, there are not many places in the UK that will be willing to take Johnnie, since he's partly paralysed. I hope the consulate here can do something.

Best regards,

Debbie

The following tremendous message came through just now from Debbie.
I have also had a phone call from the Royal Naval Benevolent Trust. They will help if an application is made through the British Legion. At work at present and cannot do this until tomorrow. If someone else could send them further details then maybe we can get things going today.
One great thing is that Manchester is within easy reach for me so at least someone can visit!
Please check out the currency converter at
http://wwp.greenwichmeantime.co.uk/time-zone/asia/united-arab-emirates/currency.htm
From what Debbie says, I reckon they need USD 2,700 or GBP 1,900 or Euros 2,000. This is not an appeal only a statement.
Peter

Hi Everyone,
Mohammed called this morning with good news!
The Consulate has managed to find Johnnie a bed at the Royal Hospital,
Manchester. They have also arranged a team to meet him at the airport,
and take him to the hospital.
Hisham is trying to find a way to have someone take care of Johnnie
on the flight, hopefully at no extra cost. All the best with that,
Hisham!
We're now left with getting together the cost of the ticket +
wheelchair. As I mentioned earlier, this will be about AED 15,000+. So
far, AED 5,500 has been collected. THIS IS URGENT since Mohammed's
hoping to book Johnnie on a flight leaving on the 6th of April. We've
got a day or two at most for this.
Those of you outside the UAE or in Abu Dhabi can use Western Union to
transfer the money. You can then email/ call Mohammed and give him the
transfer number, and he'll have it collected from the nearest Western
Union office. If you're in Sharjah and Dubai, please call Mohammed. He
said he can have the cash picked up from wherever you are.
Please tell everyone you know whom you think will be willing to help.
This bit is down to us. It's something only we can do. If you've any
further queries don't hesitate to email me.
Best regards,
Debbie

. . . from Peter [KWSN]

Here are the proper contact details supplied by Debbie:

Mohammed Hassan of Gulf News can be contacted at these numbers:
050-8088897 or 04-3447100 if you're calling from within the UAE.
+971 50 8088897 and +971 4 3447100 if you're calling from outside the
UAE.

You can email him at mmohamed@gulfnews.com (that's mohamed with a single 'm').

I am now in the process of sending a donation through Western Union (Google the name and the process is then very simple). You can pay in UAE Dirhams this way. Western Union charge a little extra for this service but the money is needed right now! No account number is needed. Mohamed can collect the money from the local UAE office. You need Mohamed's mobile phone number - national code 971 and number 508088897 and once the transaction is started, to complete it you have to call Western Union on a number they give to confirm it. Then they call Mohamed and the transaction can be completed.

I have followed Debbie's instructions and it has worked so far.

Whiskey now has a passport again and all sorts of people are rallying round for him. I found a local contact for the Royal British Legion and with their help a grant should be possible from the Royal Naval Benevolent Trust. With the donations collected and still coming in, it should soon be possible for Whiskey to be in hospital in Manchester. That is not too far from here and I should be able to get to see him.

Please let as many people as possible know about the donation details. I must send some personal messages myself!

All the best!

Peter

Hi Everyone,
Fantastic news! We've now managed to collect enough to cover Johnnie's ticket!
Mohammed is,even as I write, collecting Johnnie's passport from the British consulate. He's already bought his wheelchair, and will be shortly also getting the airticket.
Peter managed - brilliantly - to get hold of the phone number of the Royal British Legion here in the UAE,and emailed it to me. I spoke to a Mr. Frank Kennedy of the RBL yesterday,as did Peter. Mr.Kennedy visited Johnnie today, and is now ensuring that everything is sorted so that Johnnie gets all the support he'll need back in the UK. Peter's efforts at contacting the Royal British Legion in the UK also paid off; they are going to work on Johnnie's case there.

I'll try and visit Johnnie today if I can, and give him all your best wishes. If everything goes well, he'll be back home in a few days' time!

Excellent teamwork everyone!

Mind you,I wonder what we'd have done if Mohammed had found E.T ill and alone in a Sharjah hospital ward...

have a good weekend,

Debbie

Mohamed Hassan deserves a medal. If he gets nothing else then he will get the reward he deserves in Heaven. Tremendous work and the rest are just breathless in his wake.

This is some uplifting news.....
Blessings to all who have helped our friend Whiskey in his time of need.
I continue to send my prayers to him and all who are helping him.

Hoping he can continue his recovery and communicate with us here at Seti in the not too distant future.

Whiskey should be in the Manchester Royal Infirmary some time on Monday. Flight EK017 from Dubai gets in at Manchester Terminal 2 at 12.25 and EK019 arrives 19.05. Don't know which one he will be on yet. Not even had confirmation of the hospital either but I know the MRI does the sort of nursing care required for stroke victims. As soon as I can get to see him I shall and then let everyone know how things stand. I guess what he would really like next is a laptop with a wifi connection!

Thank you everyone for your prayers, wishes, donations, help, ideas etc. This has been a real 100% team effort and I know we shall all be happy once our great man is back in the UK. It would be invidious to praise some and then forget others because you have all been great: even the encouragement to carry on was invaluable.

The whole Seti community and a lot more people besides deserves all praise for pulling together so well. I reckon Debbie and Mohammed should write it all in a book!

Well...
Until that can be arranged, someone could print a copy of this thread and let him read about what has gone on here in his absence. Might do his heart some good.

Again, sending kitty prayers out to all involved in helping him, no matter how much or how little. And for his continued healing.

I hope you gather strength quickly friend.
