Hello, there! My name's Joe and I'm happily BOINCing along, thanks to the good work of those who fixed the BOINC bug which plagued those of us bereft of Bill Gates' latest operating system. My "old" (That's what they called it. Honest!) operating system, Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition, was apparently unhappy with the previous version of BOINC: It constantly threw up meaningless dialog boxes talking about Fortran and how something wasn't doing something-or-other. So I had to unBOINC -- eschewing helping the ClimatePrediction.Net and LHC@Home people -- and pout in the nearest corner whilst running the "old" (There's that word again!) SETI@Home application. But now, being re-BOINCed with a more broad-minded BOINC, my computing system is dutifully processing data from all three of those worthy projects. I just knew you'd want to share in the joy. Thank you and good evening! =^..^= P.S.: One wonders why one's signature image doesn't appear here, when it's happily displaying on the Forum Preferences page. Also, one wonders why one's avatar is so lacking in its original image quality. Alas! |

Hi, glad you're up and running, but I think the Fortran bug was on the climateprediction.net side of things and not from BOINC (which is "language agnostic" as far as the application goes). |

People still write in Fortran? That's amazing. ------------------------------------ The game High/Low is played by tossing two nuclear warheads into the air. The one whose bomb explodes higher wins. This game is usually played by people of low intelligence, hence the name High/Low. |

> Holy crap. People still write in Fortran? That's amazing. I'm not a Fortran fanatic per se, but love it or hate it, many if not most real scientific research & apps are in Fortran. In fact as far as BOINC goes, I know climateprediciton.net is Fortran-based, as well as Predictor@Home and LHC@Home. |

Let me amend my previous post by saying how grateful I am to whomever fixed whatever was wrong wherever it was located! In the event, all is running smoothly now. =^..^= Yay! The signature is working, too! ![]() |

Glad to hear it and you're welcome! :-) The problem with Fortran (well at least on CPDN) is there are/were a lot of hidden things buried deep in the 1.2 million lines that don't work too well in Windows, such as writing to a nonexistent console etc. And a lot of things are compiler dependent so they worked in our old Compaq Visual Fortran for Windows. But when we moved to BOINC and needed to go to Visual Studio.Net over VC++ 6.0, we had to get a compiler that supported that and Intel was the only way, but that introduced a few new problems we had to figure out. |
