Using your RAM to help your graphics card is not exclusive to Windows XP or any other OS. In fact, it is a feature of the hardware to be able to use system RAM when onboard video RAM is lacking. I will, however, argue that it does not actually speed up anything since accessing system RAM is far slower than the video card's own pool of onboard RAM.

if you are trying to speed up the rate work-units are processed in SETI@Home, then can I suggest disabling the graphics, that will give you a little speed boost.

Not enough to make any real difference..
You are limited by only having the Intel X3100 inbuilt graphics chip.
It just doesn't have the grunt to run some of the newer games properly. You may be able to play around with the way the machine allocates memory to the graphics or the CPU, but it doesn't change the power of the GPU.

In a desktop you would just disable the onboard graphics and fit a better graphics card, but thats not an option in a laptop. One of the reasons that most gamers buy desktops. Laptops with serious graphics built in are expensive,

Hi, have a HP Pavillion 8180nl, wich has an nVIDIA 8600GT VIDEO card, build in.
These (PCI_Express)cards can use system memory as a so called Z-Buffer for 3D VIDEO games etc.
But are quite expensive, paid €1200 1 1/2 year ago. But I like it (Works better and faster then one off my desktops a P4DUAL).
