I will never forget the ride I had in my '69 Buick GS 400 one afternoon in high school.............
......The best speed I ever got was about 145 mph.....outrunning a cop....on a Sunday morning comin' down........

Similar story in my 1970 Z28... Had a s-turn stretch alongside a cliffside... at night you had to watch for opposite direction headlights while we were straightning the curves. Not a pretty sight when the guy you were racing against had to steer toward the cliff to avoid the head-on collision. 300 ft down into the river :-(

More than once I had to lock 'em up else I'd have been straight through the T-bone in the road.... Sliding to a stop locked up looking over the cliff out your window... I changed my driving habits after the second time... But the chicks loved it ;-)

I used to drive mountain pass roads to go between work and home. Many's the time that I drove a lot faster than was safe in my '70 Challenger. I made it from home to work as fast as someone driving the freeway. there were several turns that were hairy to say the least. and if I went over the side I would be lucky not to land in someone's living room. I was taking 15MPH turns at 30 MPH and staying in my own lane as well. but it was tough. I don't do those things any more....:)

rebest, I also like Mopars, They were/are great cars.
For instance '71 Roadrunner and '70 Challenger/Cuda.
I had one of each. drooooool......

Drool is right!!!! Awesome, Stealth!!

I'd love to have one of the classics. Instead, I joined the "Next Generation":

It's fun to play with. The only problem is the NC Highway Patrol thinks so, too. They're getting a fleet of them.

The various law enforcement agencies here are also going to Dodges. Even some in Northern California have them. Harking back to the '60s and '70s when the CHP used the Dodge Polaras for their interceptor vehicles.

My first car was a '69 Dodge Polara. Unfortunately, instead of the 440, it had the 318. It was a good first car. All metal, very heavy, and underpowered. I couldn't get into too much trouble.

My fourth or fifth was the '71 Roadrunner 383 Magnum 4spd and 3.23 limited slip differential it would do 100 in the 1/4. top end over 135mph I know because I tried both. the 1/4 when I pissed off a LACSD and Top end when my dad died. (in case you don't know the acronym, it stands for Los Angeles County Sheriff Deputy.)

I will never forget the ride I had in my '69 Buick GS 400 one afternoon in high school.............

The dudes had been bitching at me all day long 'bout this guy and his 'Stang.......
Got to get sore......you know how teenys are.......and peer pressure...

I caved...and granted him the race......

Lunch time.......and little used road......and too many hormones and horsepower....

We launched.......I had him from the get-go........
But then the right front wheel bearing on the 'Stang froze up........

Not a pretty sight....but nobody died that after noon.....the 'Stang ended up on the roof.......with the tyres aloft.......they all crawled out.....thank God.

I got called into the front office that afternoon, but did not confess....

Used to have a hoot launching me GS400 over the railroad tracks in town...
Dude did not believe that I could get the car airborne......dumb ###t......

Won a c-note for that one........
he waited be the side of the road.......
I cam by at about 85mph......the road was high, the tracks were low.......and away on the fly away I did go.......

How did I ever survive my youth??????

The same way I did. Dumb luck.

My old Polara was slow off the line, but the 318 had a decent top end. I decided to test it late one night on the Garden State Parkway in New Jersey. I have no idea how fast I was going, but the needle had hit the stop past 120. I was on a stretch of road that I was not familiar and was rounding a long, gentle turn when I saw the sign: Toll Plaza 1/4 mile. Now this car was totally stock, so it had the crappy old drum brakes on it. No way I was going to get that beast stopped. I think I "threaded the needle" doing about 60. Scared the crap out of me.

Isn't it great to be able to sit and reminisce with friends about the stupid and crazy things we used to do when we were kids?

Saw about a dozen trucks from Excel today when I was out hitting golf balls, love those pretty blue license plates :)
