Message 780406 - Posted: 7 Jul 2008, 22:31:00 UTC

I seem to be having an issue uploading work units.
Here is the message I see in the log

7/7/2008 3:19:52 PM|SETI@home|Started upload of 16ap08ad.12098.23385.6.8.127_0_0
7/7/2008 3:21:58 PM|SETI@home|Temporarily failed upload of 16ap08ad.12098.23385.6.8.127_0_0: http error
7/7/2008 3:21:58 PM|SETI@home|Backing off 7 min 1 sec on upload of 16ap08ad.12098.23385.6.8.127_0_0

I am behind a proxy that I control and see no issues with the connection. I downloaded with this configuration several times and returned completed units. I have rebooted with no success.
Thanks

Fire wall off

Unless you want to be inundated in Trojans and worms, always leave your firewall ON! Just add BOINC to the trusted zone of the firewall, if need be.

8/07/2008 7:30:38 PM|SETI@home|Scheduler request failed: Error 417

Please exit BOINC. (Default BOINC Manager->File->Exit)

Make a cc_config.xml file.

Add to it:
<cc_config>
<log_flags>
<file_xfer_debug>1</file_xfer_debug>
<http_debug>1</http_debug>
<http_xfer_debug>1</http_xfer_debug>
</log_flags>
</cc_config>

Save it in your BOINC directory. (If BOINC 6, save it in your BOINC Data directory)

Restart BOINC.

Make contact with Seti.

Post the new log.

Also, some firewalls do not correctly turn off, and block some things anyway.

BOINC.exe has to be allowed to call out on ports 80 and 443.

Did you recently update your BOINC install?

Message 780718 - Posted: 8 Jul 2008, 13:55:45 UTC

I've been having trouble with uploading for about a week. I'm up to 53 WUs in the pipeline to report.

I've checked the firewall is allowing ports 80 and 443.

Here is a selection of the messages:

6/07/2008 8:54:03 AM|SETI@home|Scheduler request failed: Couldn't connect to server
6/07/2008 8:56:38 AM|SETI@home|Sending scheduler request: Requested by user. Requesting 0 seconds of work, reporting 25 completed tasks
6/07/2008 8:56:40 AM||Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site
6/07/2008 8:56:42 AM||Access to reference site succeeded - project servers may be temporarily down.

snip

8/07/2008 11:48:31 PM|SETI@home|Sending scheduler request: Requested by user. Requesting 2435952 seconds of work, reporting 53 completed tasks
8/07/2008 11:48:34 PM||Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site
8/07/2008 11:48:37 PM||Access to reference site succeeded - project servers may be temporarily down.
8/07/2008 11:48:38 PM|SETI@home|Scheduler request failed: Couldn't connect to server

Suggestions are welcome.

With thanks,
Peter

I've been having trouble with uploading for about a week. I'm up to 53 WUs in the pipeline to report.

In your case, try to use HTTP 1.0 first.
Same thing with making a cc_config.xml file, but instead add in it:

<cc_config>
<options>
<http_1_0>1</http_1_0>
</options>
<cc_config>

(There are no lower case L's used. It's all numbers one (1))

Also save it in your BOINC directory, then restart BOINC.
Try communications now.

If it doesn't work either, use the cc_config.xml file I posted in this post in this same tread and post the logs from that.

Um.... if these are NOT the log then where
do I look. There's no obvious new log file happening in the BOINC folder.

+++++

In all its glory, the cc_config.xml file is:

<cc_config>
<log_flags>
<file_xfer_debug>1</file_xfer_debug>
<http_debug>1</http_debug>
<http_xfer_debug>1</http_xfer_debug>
</log_flags>
<options>
<http_1_0>1</http_1_0>
</options>
<cc_config>

This is what generated the last logged attenpt (four lines) as listed, when restarted. I used just the HTTP lines when it restarted and generated the master file fetch.

Thanks,
Peter

@bgerrish

Which BOINC version?

5.10.45

For you, since you use a proxy, have you tried the <force_auth> flag option in the cc_config.xml file?

<cc_config>
<options>
<force_auth>basic | digest | gss-negotiate | ntlm</force_auth>
</options>
</cc_config>

<force_auth>
When authenticating against a proxy server use a specific authentication method.

Valid parameters are:
basic
digest
gss-negotiate
ntlm

Make a choice based on which option your proxy uses. Add only that option in the tags, save the file to your BOINC directory and restart BOINC.

If it doesn't work, adapt the cc_config.xml file I put in this post into it and post its messages from that.

So your cc_config.xml will then look something like this:

<cc_config>
<log_flags>
<file_xfer_debug>1</file_xfer_debug>
<http_debug>1</http_debug>
<http_xfer_debug>1</http_xfer_debug>
</log_flags>
<options>
<force_auth>ntlm</force_auth>
</options>
</cc_config>

Did you restart BOINC? (if run as a service you may need to do net stop boinc, net start boinc)
Else open BOINC Manager->Advanced view->Advanced->read config file.

I am having the same issue on some of my crunchers. It wont upload WUs. Others seem to be working fine and there all on the same network. A couple of my crunchers only have a few WUs left to crunch before they run out and 250 WUs to report.

My issue was Internet Explorer Enhanced Security. I added Http://*.berkeley.edu and https://*.berkeley.edu to the Trusted sites in Internet explorer and voila all WUs transmitted.

Yes, I had re-started BOINC.

Here is the latest log, after a 'cold' restart.

At least now your jobs have been reported. The lack of downloaded jobs is due to server problems at SETI.

However, I have highlighted some lines in your message log.
- You seem to have made some typos in cc_config.xml, but obviously, the log flags have been recognized.
- You are running Vista and using C:\Program Files\BOINC as Data directory. You should install to another directory (outside of C:\Program Files\).
- Did you intentionally set local preferences? If not so, click Advanced / Preferences... in the advanced view Boinc Manager window and press the Clear button.

Gruß,
Gundolf
