Mark et al

The current thought is that Enhanced MultiBeam and Astropulse run side by side.
Meaning a User can get a MultiBeam and/or an Astropulse in the same request for work.
* Those that would not get an Astropulse would be those who have an "app_info.xml" (meaning an optimized application or the standard application with a properly defined app_info.xml file).
* A user could setup an "app_info.xml" to get only Astropulse.

A Query was sent to see if a "Users Preferences" could have a setting for selection of one or the other or both (this takes programing and user intervention).
A Query was sent asking about whether the API for trickles could be implemented for machines taking extended time to complete an AP Result.

A couple of other questions that I am not clear on, that were asked of me by another user....

I have read that MB work will continue when AP is taken live....do we get a choice of which we want to process, or is the scheduler going to send a mix of both out, or is it going to be a separate project like Beta is now?

Sorry Pappa, I am a bit slow...Are you saying we have to give up our long sought after opt app in order to run Astropulse? Maybe our app wizards could rewrite the app_info.xml file to allow both? I know nothing of this just asking...

So... I though I'd checkout what all the hoopla was about and attatched to Beta last night... promptly DL 5 AP WUs. Crunched on one WU for almost 15 hours and reached 44% complete. Now BOINC Mgr says it's running the AP WU, but no more progress or CPU time is being logged. Task Manager only shows the 3 S@H WUs getting CPU time.

Also my host has frozen/locked up 5 times in the past 15 hours. I've seen BSOD a few times in the past... maybe 3-4 times a month, but never total freeze/lockup. Coincidence??? I don't think so. I've suspended Beta project and rebooted and resumed S@H on all 4 processes. If stability resumes, I'll abort all Beta WUs in my cache.

I could try setting the host to stock/factory clock and try again, but that is one consession I'm not willing to make.. Are there known pre-requisites... like BOINC 5.10.45, or running at stock clock that I'm unaware of? This was my first attempt at running Beta and I might be lacking in know-how.

Hiamps

No you will "Not" have to give up the Optimized Apps, there will be a little work to get things going...

Pappa, is there going to be a mac version or are we just the forgotten few?

Not that I mind.

What I presume is some of the worst issues should be out of the way shortly. Then the port to Mac will start. Currently, Dotsch has ported for Mac testing...

If you want to help with the testing of the Mac AP app, give Dotsch a PM. I am testing it on my lowly 1 gig G4. It takes about 375 hours for the first incarnations of the AP app, v4.30 and 4.31. There is a reputed speedup in v4.33, but I am finishing the one I am doing now before I switch to the new port. Gives the old Mac something to do...

Just attached & d/l'ed 1st wu. 154:50, 6½ days, wow, how much credit will that provide & what is the quorum - 2/3?

Have noticed that it is in it's own folder in boinc directory - I take it that it won't use the s@h opt app?

Correct. It downloads its own standard App. Optimisation comes later when the concept is proven.

Thanks Fred, I was worried that it would use the opt app, which from what I've already read, that's a no-no!

Can't wait to see how much she pays out....knowing my luck.. 2 cents!

AP is still on time * benchmark, they are working on the flops count and the required adjustment figure, just need more data from us volunteers.

For info I'm claiming about 730 on core2 cpu's.

Well......
The Frozen Penny has been a little feisty lately.....trying to get some AP work done just to see how it pans out, but have been having some trouble with the memory subsystem lately....did the crash and detach routine a couple of times.....got some processing now....about 12 hours into one and showing about 64%....looks like about 22 hours to complete it....
Have the Penny running on one stick of ram to see if the NB will handle it and stay running long enough to complete the WU....

Mark

Sorry to hear about memory problems... Urs had mentioned a possible bug in the AP Graphics which took a bit to reproduce.. He wondered if the Frozen Penny could get there... LOL

I created a thread that has some grpahics of the AP in action AP 4.33 Pictures. The thread contains the details and it is not too graphic intensive but it does give an idea of what the changes are in what AP refines the incoming data into...
