Very impressive --

Has anyone run a comparison test to find out if the screenshot slows down the overall throughput of the packet, and if so, by how much ??

Al, could you do a screenshot from underneath the wire frame graphics box, especially when the graphics goes out of the box ?

OA

Running with Graphics on has "appeared" to slow them a bit.. While catching these had one running the graphics window for about 8 hours. I do not have exact numbers for comparison

URS

I had been looking for that particular instance. Since about 4.30 I have not noticed any on my random samples.

Doing these graphics on a Win Machine is simple

Open the Graphics on the AP WU
Hold the Alt Key and Stab the Prnt Screen Key. (that captures whatever is in the foreground window into the clipboard)
Start Menu, Accessories, Paint
When Paint is open do a Ctl-V to paste the graphic into a new graphic. then "Save As" Using the JPG format.

Running the graphics with one core crunching on a dual/quad core won't slow down a unit I think. With all cores running a wu slowdown will occur... the graphics app will approx use 1-3% of the CPU.

Funny thing is, that it takes away proc-time from the climate wu running on the other core on my Pentium D.

;-)

Urs

I think I have made AP a bit Dizzy (turning it upside down), I keep looking underneath and still am not catching anything stray...

If I look at the color and the color above It would almost appear that the data is not being blanked properly. and does it consistenly appear in the same area (color) as that might be the key towards timing in that display loop.

I would have to ask the brand of the video card, then we can hopefully have others test to see if we can reproduce it.

Intel 915GM onboard video that is, using intel's most actual win2k driver.

Al, if you start a new wu you should see the GooB right from the beginning underneath.

Urs

I did reproduce it

Edit:

Notice the two parallel lines of green dots... Leaving it turned upside down I can see where I get a streak of color in about the area that color would be displayed but nothing persistent.

What I suspect is that blanking what should "not" be visible is getting out of sync with the refresh rate of the video card.

Puuh, at least i'm not alone anymore.
So, following your guess, a faster video card shouldn't produce GooB's underneath.
Maybe we should ask msattler to look out for this on his "Frozen Penny". If that host does the same then you might be right.
Still my guess is we do see something because of a very minor programming bug.

Urs

Here after a bit I will change my "refresh rate" first and then my screen resolution...

If it has to do with the "sync to the refresh" I should be able to make it worse...

While the video card is not the best (PCIe8x) The graphics engine is running at 500MHZ and the memory at 269MHZ.

For lighting and ledgibility I have the refresh set at 75HZ

So yes as he has some crunching going on Hey Mark, we need you to produce Goob's... LOL
