7th June 8:30 temp = 21, humidity 89% FB-DIMM = 66 Celsius CPU's min = 61, max 70 Celsius see humidity in France see forecast Strasbourg It was a silent night, still light rain... -------------------------------------------- the machine is crunching 24/7 so far without any problems. we will look up into the statistik after a month.. on June 19th Then we can see how it performs. heinz |

18:00 hour temp = 24,5 humidity = 82% light cloudy FB-DIMM = 60 Celsius CPU's max = 70 min = 60 ---------------------------------------- To install the harware Raid was not possible till now, after restart I saw the menue to configure, but as described to get in by enter Ctrl+I was not possible. Tried it several times, but it did not work. The latest BIOS Version 1140 21.05.2008 is installed as Francois recommended. Perhaps I should open a support request... ------------------------------------------- So I let the machine as it is. Boot Menue (Acronis OS Selector) is installed in a own 2GB Partition(independent from any OS and copys on every disk). I have now realized following patition plan for every of the 3 disks 1.) 2 GB FAT32 for Bootmenue 2.) 60 GB for different OS'ses (this is recommended to install VS2008) 3.) 869 GB the rest for user data Additionally I make copys of the 2 GB and 60 GB partitions as ISO-files on a external USB-disk.(works great with Acronis True Image 11) So I have a relative secure system, if any disk fails. ------------------------------------------------------- For the RAID5 I want to gather up the three 869GB partitions to a common disk area for all OS'ses. -------------------- Any Idea is to copy the Boinc Folder to the 2 GB boot partition, so all OS's have access to it and Boinc can run under the different OS'ses without new install and the data are public to every OS. But have no idea if this runs, but it is a interesting idea to try. Your suggestions are welcome. heinz |

OK, I'll jump in... Why are you wanting to use RAID5? For the very low cost of storage, you may as well take advantage of the simpler RAID1 (mirror). That gives a faster and more robust solution than RAID5. Note also that RAID5 can be very tempermental in performance for various usage patterns. Aside: Just because you have a Marketing "tick box" for your hardware, that does not mean that you 'must' use it. There may be better ways. (I'll admit it is also fun to take advantage of full functionality, but only if useful!) Thanks Martin, here is a look at my workspace Will now use as it is, in this way I have max capacity. It would be nice to gather up the three big data areas(E H L) over NTFS-Link, but I dont know if Vista like it. Some additional security I manage with the "Acronis True Image" Software package. At first this is a acceptable solution. heinz |

Today I give Server2008 a chance to install. It started from my burned DVD ISO file, came to the point where I must put in the Serial number, then it shows: Windows can not found the necessary file "L:\\Sources\\Install.wim". The file is possible defect or lost. Errorcode_ 0x800705070 too bad... it was my free licence... Last chance to burn a new ISO from the downloaded file(3,6 GB). If this not work then my free licence is lost ;-( cryyyy heinz |

Thanks Martin, You look to have two rather old and small HDDs in there. Use them for your OS(es) and put all your data on the big new HDD? Over in the Linux world, you can aggregate any drives/partitions you like by adding them to an LVM2 'group' that are then seamlessly used as one area. However, that is rather vulnerable if any of your included HDDs should fail... I happen to be playing with "Linux RAID" at the moment. You can use any of raid 0, 1, 4, 5, 6, 10, multipath, and linear. I'm sorry, for the price of HDDs at the moment, I do not think it is worth wasting time with cobbling together many old and small HDDs. You just waste time and risk an increased failure rate... Enjoy your experimenting! Good luck, Martin See new freedom: Mageia Linux Take a look for yourself: Linux Format The Future is what We all make IT (GPLv3) |

10 hour temp = 21 Celsius humidity = 90% FB-DIMM = 67 Celsius CPU's max 70, min 59 Celsius -------------------------------- Merci Fred, It is pitty the download-link did not work from Grid PP. The Real Time Monitor is a nice tool add to Google-Earth, shows the map of the grid and some more infos explore the GridPP. We should give a message to Imperial College London, that the link did not work and download is impossible since a while now. regards heinz |

Have you been praying to the wrong god(s)? Hi guy's, no Heinz, i believe , lives in Germany and as in the eastern part off the Netherlands, it's 10C or warmer then it's 'normally' is in june, today it was 28C and a high humidity, pppffffffffffffffhhhhhhhh . Use 1 mobile airco 12 hours per day. Considering placing SOLAR-Panels, as it stay's this sunny weather it's worthwhile, i think. *Offtopic*I use too much electicity, generally 1KW/h .24KWh per day is 750KWh a month. *Back On Topic* *** Keep 0N Crunch1nG *** |

19:00 we are back again, but suddenly connection to seti@home lost.. 23:20 now we are connected again. temp = 18 C, humidity = 100% FB-DIMM = 67 all is OK now again -------------------------------- I live in the home-land of the Celtic, her holy hill is the mountain Donon(1009m). Ontop is a temple and the statue of god Jupiter , so no wounder we have always lightning and thundering if the god is comming. Already the Roman Julius Caesar has been there and built a temple on it. The latest neo-hellenistic temple on it was built from Napoleon. Every where you look aroud, you see a lot of signs and inscriptions. Really a holy place, since thousands of years.... A lot is found on the Donon, you can see it in the "Musèe de Epinal" of Strasbourg. regards from France Alsace heinz |

A few days ago i saw a weather report from June 1983 for germany (old "Tagesschau"). Guess how the weather looked alike: Day 23°C - 30°C and sunny except the southwest with some thunderstorms expected, Night 8°C - 12°C and starlit night except the southwest with light rain and local thunderstorms. Heinz, does that sound somehow familiar to you ? _\|/_ U r s |

FB-DIMM = 66 C CPU' min = 61, max = 71 ----------------------------------- the machine runs 24/7 without any problems. Very pitty, I can't install Server2008 from my download-self-burned DVD. It always fails with missing/defect install.wim file errorcode 0x800705070 ;-( any ideas ? The download is 3,6Gig...I need one and a half day todo it, and if this then works is a great question. heinz |
