This is the song from Russia that won!

Eurovision 2008 Russia - Dima Bilan - Believing; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KDJxR0fsbN8

I still think Dustin the turkey wins the prize for the best comedy act...LOL

John.

The best thing about most of these songs from the European Song Contest is that they are forgotten within a few days. Come and ask me two days from now how that songs sounds like and I simply can't answer.

There are only a few European Song Contest songs I still remember, among others Johnny Logan's songs, they are evergreens.

Johnny Logan - What's Another Year

Johnny Logan - Hold me now

Linda Martin - Why Me? (written by Johnny Logan)

Then there of course is the unforgettable ABBA - Waterloo
"I'm trying to maintain a shred of dignity in this world." - Me

There is no doubt Fuzzy, ABBA where probably the biggest thing to ever come out of Eurovision. ABBA has its own cult following kinda like Elvis. We even have one of them ABBA mimic bands and they are still very popular all over the country. Great for 21st parties, birthdays, weddings, but they can even still pull a crowd for a small gig.

But there is one Eurovision act that never won the competition. They did not even compete in the competition!!. They were the interval act to entertain you while you wait.
....They (HE) have made millions and become famous all over the world!!

Riverdance (Eurovision Song Contest 1994 Dublin); http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5Mc03_rlWo

I will never forget the shivers down my spine when i watched Riverdance that very first time during the interval. Everybody in Ireland remembers this, it has shaped dance and music in Ireland ever since!

Oh yes, I remember that year where Riverdance were the interval act. Usually they showed something very boring, something that just should kill the time, but that year I think most of Europe sat glued to the screen while Riverdance were shown in that interval! I remember that I actually counted on something boring to be shown because I then could make an errand to the kitchen to get some snacks for the scores, but I never made it to the kitchen! It was so amazing that I simply had to watch it!

For those who don't know what it is about: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Riverdance

And I also had shivers down my spine, which I have had ever since when I have watched Riverdance or The Lord of the Dance on tv. There is something very amazing about it, the rhythm, the movements, they are so beautiful, those dancers, specially when they dance in line, the songs, the music... It really hits something inside people.

So yes, Johnny Logan's victory gave us the Riverdance! And thank you for that, Ireland!

Was the result ever really in doubt?

How many Eastern European countries rely on Russia for Gas etc?

Ooh, are you suggesting political bias? Anyway, I think Terry Wogan won!

Which is why I stopped watching the Contest about 1973.

Poor songs, political bias and little gained from the expense or competition, especially since the 2004 EU partner country influx.

But then we did field a singer no one had ever heard of and the Russian is an international star, albeit in the eastern bloc. Let's face it, we haven't had a decent Brit song or singer in the country for donkey's years.

Agreed!

But the same must be said for the general standards of the songs, and acts, from all the contesting countries.

It is about time this sorry spectacle was taken outside, shot in the head, and butchered in the kindest way to provide sustenance for the third world.

The whole Eurovision Song Contest is corrupt, low brow and should have been shutdown/abandoned years ago.

If it continues I think it is about time the UK pulled out of the junket permanently.
