Message 29593 - Posted: 24 Sep 2004, 7:16:14 UTC

I have several systems running BOINC all of which are running out of work... They are contacting the scheduler and getting told there is no work available:

SETI@home - 2004-09-24 07:19:57 - Scheduler RPC to http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi succeeded
SETI@home - 2004-09-24 07:19:57 - Message from server: No work available
SETI@home - 2004-09-24 07:19:57 - No work from project

Yet when I look at the Server Status page it says currently:

[As of 24 Sep 2004 7:00:15 UTC]

Ready to send 784,362

When I looked about an hour ago before I left for work there were over a million units...

Where are they going and why can't I get them!

Same here im , Im also getting the same reply. Maybe a little patience is required and WU's will start to be issued again.
If your connecting with the scehduler and getting a no work response i would say there is nothing wrong your end and its just a case of patience my friend.

p.s

I hope :)

You and I and 40,000 or so others are ALL trying to get units from one set of computers! It takes time for all of us to get thru, give it time and we will probably run out but not for long. 4 of my machines have run out but 3 still have work. I have switched those 4 back to Classic for now, they will come back to Boinc in a couple of days.

I have the same problem: I totally ran out of work and it's 2 days now that BOINC is trying to download more WUs without success from three different machines. These are the messages that I get from one of them (on the others the message is almost identical):

--- - 2004-09-24 15:59:59 - Insufficient work; requesting more
SETI@home - 2004-09-24 15:59:59 - Requesting 16151 seconds of work
SETI@home - 2004-09-24 15:59:59 - Sending request to scheduler: http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi
SETI@home - 2004-09-24 16:00:10 - Scheduler RPC to http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi failed
SETI@home - 2004-09-24 16:00:10 - No schedulers responded
SETI@home - 2004-09-24 16:00:10 - Deferring communication with project for 4 minutes and 41 seconds

One thing strange I noticed is that request for 16151 seconds of work, which approximately is about 269 hours. Is that number too much data? Is it normal?

Thanks to everyone.

16151 seconds = 269,183 minutes = 4,486 hours ;)

You're absolutely right. Got mixed up. Anyway seems like there's no work for us.

Same problem here, no WU's.

I am also running Climateprediction project so I am not setting idle now.

Also Bonic with Climateprediction and Seti Classic will split CPU time and let both run ~50%.

I'm still getting hit and miss WUs. Two machines, same processor, RAM and OS. One machine is getting 1 WU and a second about the time the first hits 80% done... the other got 6 WUs all in one go (after being told no work for 2 hours). :S

It's also been saying scheduler down for the last hour.

16151 sec = 269.1833 mins = 4.4972166666666666666666666667 hrs

269 hrs = 16140 mins = 968400 sec

But who is counting.....

My name is Pascal and this message has no meaning, but still has my approval...

It is 10 oclock, do you know what your WUWUs are doing tonight...

I am using 4.13, I also use 4.13 on OS X (2nd machine) which is currently running. Will it allow me to use 2 machines for one account? I can't seem to get any work running on the PC.

Not a useful idea. Remember that the deadline is in 14 days from the download.

This is probably what did it.

Except that anything returned after 14 days has a high chance of NO CREDIT, and NO SCIENTIFIC VALUE. The further after 14 days it is returned, the lower the chance of credit and scientific value.

Still having same issue. My Mac is working just fine. It is currently crunching work units. I cannot get this PC to work (see below).

Question: The PC is using a firewall. It is on Port 81 (the only port available for me). It seems to communicate with the project (attaches), but not the schedulers. Do you think the schudulers might have difficulty with this port number (81)?

Patrick:

You are requesting 16,151 seconds of work which is equal to 4.486 hours. If your computer requires 6.5 hours to process a work unit you are in effect requesting a fraction of a work unit and the seti scheduler only sends whole WUs. Try resetting your preferences at Seti to contact server to every 2 or 4 days. Then use the update option in BOINC. Hopefully that will work.

Franz
