People say lots of things that may or may not be true.

Hmm... Lip service? Empty words? Propaganda? BS? Yeah, I know... ;)

Eric has said it is not him and he no longer is involved with the forums.

Would you telling us, Eric is a liar?

Is your point that you missed the context of the comment entirely? Given that you did not quote an important part of the argument as it was presented?

Cordially,

Since the new whatevertheyare is anonymous, there is no way one would ever know who it is, or is not, at any given time.

So emailing Eric is just as good as any other method, and it might be him. So who knows?

Eric has said it is not him and he no longer is involved with the forums.

So does that mean the new admin (anonymin) has the ability to change the way mods are chosen, selected, blessed, vetted, or otherwise appointed without Eric's involvement or approval?

Maybe the new anonymin should make an appearance and answer these pressing questions :)

I believe that the mechanism for switching moderators and admins is set by the S@H team at berkeley, not by a single admin. There is one admin that is more active with the moderators, and is the point of contact for day to day stuff.

So is it correct to state that the current (non-Eric) admin is one of the SETI Berkeley staff, not an elevated mod?

Do the moderators have access to the setiforums@ssl.berkeley.edu email account?

Do the other admins not currently on forum duty have access to the setiforums@ssl.berkeley.edu email?

I think it may be a good idea if the admin take note of those who do not wish to consider the position.

I'll start the ball rolling...........

On no account e-mail me regarding volunteering for mod position - it will be deleted instantly without reply.

No offence intended.

That is what we have been told.

We can send emails to it. We have no other access to it.

I have no idea.

If you do get an email asking if you want to be a moderator, please be courteous enough to reply with a "No, not interested" or some such message. The admins are busy, and do not have time to read through the message boards for the pre list of disinterest.

If it's anything like last time, you wake up one morning, go to read/post and BAM! There's a mod tag by your screen name! Even if not, do you really want no news to be assumed to be good news? Meaning, not reading an e-mail "No" could be interpreted as "Tes."

I was told by Eric some time ago it has to be a paid Staff Member who is Admin but I suppose a Grad Student (some grad students I know receive a stipend for work for their universities) could do it?

They shouldn't be making assumptions. I run my own servers & business forum. My e-mail is heavily filtered, so hopefully, it will never get through. Should I wake up & see it so tagged, I will be very displeased!

Honestly, I doubt it would run the same way this time. But, until we're told otherwise, it remains a possibility, no matter how small the probability.

Well stated & I must admit, more courteous than my post. It poses a question though:- If the admins are that busy, just how are mods selected?

Randomly by computer? Names tossed into a hat? Personally, I class myself as too imperfect. I'm one of those people who just does what they enjoy.

No offence to ANY moderator, I just do not have the patience & I also know my own limits - this alone excludes me from any postion of authority.

Well then why doesn't Admin ask one of the mods to collect names of those who have stated an interest, or a disinterest? Save Admin a lot of work later when extra names have to be found.

It would be more appropriate if a current mod answered this publicly. Or PM me if it goes unanswered.

Silly Me

I am one of those people that has been beat up for caring about Seti... I am one of the poster children for Seti. Being one of the few that have gotten through email filters etc... I Watch to see what is happening. Both Good things and Bad things. When they happen according to what is seen and when it is reported. Sometimes you get answers and sometimes it might be consider just "BS."

In all that I have on several occasions posted a public email address where what is said can be seen and can get to Eric for evaluation. Over the years I have generated a "todo list" that rivals Matt's (or just adds to it).

So seeing many just "cop out" is tough... You complain, but do not feel it is your responsibility to deal with it...

My feelings are you can be part of the problem or part of the solution. The choice is yours... I chose to deal with it. If I had not, then you might have no Seti forum's to play in.

Be careful what you wish for.

You just might get it!
