I propose that if somebody has a machine, using DDr2 or 3 that can beat skulltrail to show it to me, otherwise, please drop the arguement, because it is false.

I think you miss the point. The point is that it is felt that skulltrail would be BETTER with plain DDR2 or DDR3. So, you are stating that Intel tried it, and FB-DIMM was actually better?

YOu are correct. In simulation, and now, with the hardware in the hands, as soon as you start using more than 4 cores, statistically FB-DIMM is better than DDR2.

OK. Seems as though I remember a lot of complaining when AMD said that a Barcelona simulation was "statistically" (a theoretical 2.6GHz processor, if I recall) better than Intel's offering.

So, again, are you stating "theory", or has there actually been a reference board designed with regular DDR2 or DDR3 instead of FBD?

Without getting into all the price-fixing aspects, RDRAM was theoretically better than SDRAM, but PC133 still kept up... What I hear coming from you is identical to the touting of RDRAM back then...but it didn't live up to the marketing claims...

[... For now Crunch3r's code is the best and I'll run it.

For what it's worth, that not my code...just to clarify that.
(except the linux/unix stuff wich i had to do on my own(based on some previous work of Hans Dorn), otherwise there would not be a 2.4 app for linux/unix at all)

The code was developed by all folks over at lunatics.at. Since Simon is gone and noone was/is able to change nor edit the links to the new apps we had to find an alternative to host them and that's where i jumped in.

I would be more interested in seeing a board built for the Teraflops Research Chip. 80 FP cores crunching away. Makes you wonder what kind of a RAC it would have.

I used to be a cruncher like you, then I took an arrow to the knee.

Well to be honest, i've given up on that one after trying to call him a few times.

However life goes on (and Simon if you read that one here, send me a PM)....
Things over at lunatics.at aren't working out as it was supposed to be, however i will only visit the page if i have to.

Meanwhile some other great projects poped up with way more potential than there ever was here on seti... (since some projects don't even know the all self proclaimed pupet player who's bothering some of the established projects)... was fun to hear a " Who's DA ?" on some irc chats... ;)

------------------------------------------

However, let's get back on topic here now, shall we ?

"Bail" ... OK i'm on it... i'll pay the bail to get some skulls out of jail ;) LOL

There is a common theme in all this. Quite a few people who have tried to help in optimising the code have been driven away. One from the very early days of SETI on BOINC is comatose, he vowed never to come back and unless he's come back under a different name, he has not been seen in years. I hope Simon and or who? don't take this route...

Live long and BOINC!

Well to be honest... those guys that have the knowledge doing such code optimizations are way better employed and doing way more usefull stuff than messing around with seti code... however if someone of that elite group has the time to do it it's not done 24/h day.... more likely 7h/month....

However some individuals seems to think about those that post any optimized stuff in what ever whay that those individuals spend 24/7h on that kinda crap ... anyone ever thought about that you wont get paid for messing around with seti ???

You can't seriously expect any professional to deal with it on a dayly nor even on a monthly basis ! Those guys have better things to do than wasting their time with fruiteless affords...

Crunch3r - I'm with you all day long on that one. There is a select 'few' here that drive 'a lot' away. D.A. included.

Some might think some Jokers are a bit Nutz too, This one has to work at not going Nutz(or getting bored too much), Of course I'm not bright enough to work on the code that Seti uses. I'm just Nutz enough to run Seti 24/7, But hey It's one of the things I do to keep My mind occupied with. :D

Nice! Just out of curiosity and I understand if you can't until after the product is actually released or maybe because of some other nondisclosure reason, could you post images of your BIOS settings?

I've watched the video and checked a few reviews. Francois said they were about $4,000 in the video. I could get 3 quaddies for that price and still have some change left over.

An AMD Barcelona setup should give better bang for the buck. They have pretty good FPU performance, even though the clock speed is lower. Anyone had a look at them?

Sorry, I don't think in it's current form the Skull Trail system is anything special. The next generation - with Nehalem, that will be a different matter.

The Intel Core 2 Extreme processor QX9775 is available now at an MSRP of $1,499 each. Estimated street pricing for the Intel Desktop Board D5400XS is $649. Platform components are sold separately.

A little bit of a rip off.
