![]() Censorship is telling a man he can't have a steak just because a baby can't chew it ~ Mark Twain ~ ![]() Hope is a feeling that life and work have meaning. You either have it or you don't, regardless of the state of the world that surrounds you ~ Vaclav Havel ~ ![]() The Chezk Republic has distinguished itself as a place unlike any other. Where else in the world would an artist have run a country? Havel’s story is beyond extraordinary. A playwright turned activist, turned president; who claims the Zappa/Beefheart's live document "Bongo Fury" is one of his favorite recordings (Can you name a single other leader of a nation who would admit to even hearing this album, let alone have a prominent position in their collection?) I recently finished his memoir, To the Castle and Back, translated into English by former Plastic People vocalist Paul Wilson. In the book, Havel explains that he had never aspired to be a politician, let alone a president: "I hadn’t prepared myself for a presidential role from my schooldays the way American presidents do… In the end what probably won me over was the appeal to my sense of responsibility. You can’t spend your whole life criticizing something and then, when you have the chance to do it better, refuse to go near it." ![]() The logos on Hipgnosis artworks are actually pen and ink artworks in their own right. POLLOCK PAINTINGS . . . ![]() Various mathematicians and physicists have looked for mathematical patterns, like fractals, to discover fundamental building blocks present in biological, social, and man-made networks. Now, some of these same number-crunchers are applying their algorithms to a group of recently found paintings -- suspected to be by Jackson Pollock. Are these real? Or are they fakes? Maybe mathematics and motifs will tell us. An initial study of these paintings cast doubt on their authenticity. Now, a group of physicists from Cleveland's Case Western Reserve University have come out with what they say is a better analysis. We as humans leave behind repeated patterns and motifs in our architecture, music, writing, and social networks... so why not in how we paint? ![]() . . . i realized an awful lot regarding Pollocks Artwork involved the Countryside he Painted at (My Words) 11.01.2001 Pollock's Fractals That isn't just a lot of splattered paint on those canvases, it's good mathematics . . . by Jennifer Ouellette

![]() 'In Jackson Pollock's drip paintings, as in nature, certain patterns are repeated again and again at various levels of magnification. Such fractals have varying degrees of complexity (or fractal dimension, called D), ranked by mathematicians on a series of scales of 0 to 3. A straight line (fig. D=1) or a flat horizon, rank at the bottom of a scale, whereas densely interwoven drips (fig. D=1.8) or tree branches rank higher up. Fractal patterns may account for some of the lasting appeal of Pollock's work. They also enable physicist Richard Taylor to separate true Pollocks from the drip paintings created by imitators and forgers. Early last year, for instance, an art collector in Texas asked Taylor to look at an unsigned, undated canvas suspected to be by Pollock. When Taylor analyzed the painting, he found that it had no fractal dimension and thus must have been by another artist.' Photographs Courtesy of Richard Taylor

. . . received an E-Mail from mi friend in Los Angeles, California: i have, in the Past - provided Drew w/ Exhibitions regarding his Work in Harmonics which i look at the Artistic aspects of his work in Music . . . [quote] I always wanted to work with the Mathematica software, but the cost of the program was prohibitive. So last year I wrote the team at Mathematica describing my work with Harmonics and inquired whether I could purchase a copy at a reduced rate. Beyond my expectations, I was granted a cost free copy of Mathematica in exchange for contributions to their website Demonstrations Project. The following 3 Harmonic demos have been added to the Demonstration Project including a link to the Harmonics section of my website. . . . 3D Lambdoma ![]() . . . Lambdoma Matrix ![]() . . . Lol - Im glad you think i should continue.. my paintings are mostly private, and it has been a strange feeling to deside to make it official in this way.. I have of course this love-hate feelings about all of them.. one day i like them, the next i dont.. And somehow i never expect anyone else to like them.. ;-) Yes..i should start up again..but when ? If i was 3 persons, i would, definitely. hehe.. Since im not, i just have to take it as it comes.. If the spirit comes over me, I will. ;-) Good to see you around Richard..
