Bragging, no, it's just that your way of thinking is strikinly similar if
not in many ways identical. You share so many things in common.

Imagine a REAL American sharing things in common with a man who very nearly conquered the world...and if not for the holocaust and Japan attacking us, I think all of Europe would be speaking German today.

So what exactly do you have against Germans and people of German decent? Are you the kind of person that goes around calling Germans "jew killers"? I am German on my mothers side and Scot on my fathers side. I am a REAL American and I share common decent with the man you mention. Got a problem with that?
Hopefully the cosmos is not trying to reverse the charges.

Please got back to school and check the history of WW2.

Oh yeah...I must have forgotten that valiant effort the Europeans put up...LAF

No..you forgot the valiant effort the Russians and the British put in.

Russia isn't part of Europe and we saved your butts just like everyone else.

We saved everyone else's butt because if we hadn't, your Nazis friends would have trageted the United States if they consolidated their conquests in Europe.

We would have been the next on the list. And besides, Germany declared war on us and not the other way around. Only a bozo would think that we would have gone it alone with making alliances.

As far as assisting Europse after WWII, that was also in our best interests as well.

Geographically, the vast majority of the Russian population resides in what is called Europe...Siberia is east of the Urals, and that is in Asia. Even most special education students know that, bless their hearts.

Hey "kids" grow up! :D

This zone belong to international treaties supposedly... (all those local issues needed to be discussed in local forums in english or in german etc...)

SIMPLE SOLUTION:

- If your name is not listed in Forbes Billionares list then you should understand where are you.

- Non listed ones supposed to produce products and services for those of listed ones (directly or indirectly).

Basically 2 classes. ;)

Message 671237 - Posted: 2 Nov 2007, 20:47:57 UTC - in response to Message 671105.

I've been earning a living (working for compensation) since I left college. I'm just curious about the distinction you seem to be drawing between a person with a cap and a guitar, and a person without the guitar, are they really that different?

It's not curiosity, bobby, it's sarcasm at best, stupidity at worst. One is earning an income, one is asking for hand-outs in exchange for nothing.

OK, it seems to be your opinion that the person with a cap and a guitar is not a beggar. What if the person without the guitar told a humorous anecdote, would that turn said person into an comedian and thus not a beggar? What if the person recited scripture, would that make him/her a preacher and not a beggar?
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that ...

Hey folks,

Why has this thread become a Britain or Europe against America thread?

OR why has it become a thread about the difference between 'Kings' or 'beggars'.

From what I see most people on SETI have a much richer popular background than this.

I still suspect we all have a social and family background that has to some degree defined our present lives but I'm starting to wonder if SETI people are more socially (educationally, ecconomically) mobile than the average person?

Is there a word that American's use to deffine inherited and continuing social difference rather than 'class?'

I know the concept of 'class' as a description has changed here in the UK since the 1980s.

Airplanes have first and second class seats (although I think some of them changed it to "business class" now). I wonder if we'll ever have third class seats.

OK.

I'm tired of this.

I'm tired of people who react to a point of view or arguement and then just insult others by suggesting they should "get an education", are "stupid" or are of "lesser capability" because they had a different view point.

I mean if you think you know better then share your knowledge... Don't insult.

(It's a massive world and not everyone will understand the cultural, social or political truthes about each others societies... Give us a break!!)

This thread is about "class" or any concept of that relating to you in your life in your society (not other societies.)

In general it was a question to see where the average SETI cruncher comes from or places themselves socially...

In american english they call their higher class as Upscale. (and the books or movies say: upscale family, upscale neighbourhood, etc...) - I am considering this is a clear statement of class definition in local language. I am curious what does britains, australians, canadians call their higher class in their local english? (well in indian english it is clear all 3 casts ;) )

ps. checked a version of websters and it says: Upscale - being, relating to, appealing to wealthy consumers.

In my language we call that the riches or the influentials but it is not in english. ;)

We have many german readers/talkers around here and if they tell their up-class definition it would be a good participation.

(As of observation here americans and britains argueing more than anybody else and seemingly these two have more class difference experiencing societies than others as these talks trend clearly showing)

Interesting that Princeton makes a distinction between Europe and Russia while you do not.

Call me crazy, but I'm still going with the University.

I said that the first definition you gave was right: "any member of the people of eastern Europe or Asian Russia who speak a Slavonic language". And I also said that the majority of Russians are Slavs, and that the Slavs are Europeans. The Princeton definition refers to the migration of the East Slavic peoples to the Asian part of the country.

Actually the definition doesn't say anything about migration.

That's the problem with people who read what they want to read as opposed to what's actually written.
