I seem to have lost a setting that would tell BONIC how many WU's to download and keep in queue at one time.

The only thing I can find that sounds like it is connect to the network ___ days is this the same option or is there another way to have it download so many WU's to keep a reserve just in case the schedulers or servers go down again

Anyone know anything about this?

Lets suppose your computer does a WU for 2.4 hrs. Then it will do 10 WUs per day. If you set the above option (Connect to network about every ... days) to "1", BOINC will keep enough work for 24 hrs (10 WUs). If you set it to 0.1 it must get only 1 WU and will request another after 2.4 hrs.
Its a theory, in fact it will DL 1, 2 or 3 WUs (according to my experience)
Regards

Thanks for the answer Quantum

It now makes a lot more sence then it did earlier.

I guess this is on of those were change happens but sometimes its the wording on those changes that is confusing

It would be nice if the web page had better reources on the gettings as to what things actually mean

I know what the days versus number of wus thingys is ...
I have a 400mhz and a 500mhz, both ppga celerons
the 400 is win98se with the 4.06 workaround
the 500 is win2k

the 400 gets 4 wus at a time
the 500 gets 16 in it's queue

wt....
they're both set to home with no other settings....
why the difference in number of wus queued

If the "Connect to network about every" is the same for both PC's, the explanation of the difference can be explained by the fact the benchmark results for both are different.

Greetings from Belgium.

that seems to be the problem. ta
they are both 'set' to be "home"
but the logs show different.
one says will run out in 1 day (default general)
the other says 4 days (home)

so, I think the 4.06 win98se workaround version might not be referencing preferences properly.
I'll get it to update, and then ask in the 4.06 topic.

so, I suppose there is no such feature as keeping track of wu cache: eg for example, when boinc processes a half(not whole) of cache it connects automatically to the server to fill the cache, so, if server is unavailable, boinc has some wus to process and doesn't stop just trying to connect to server in the case when wu cache is empty. In terms of connection frequency, it connects every day but keeps wus for 2 days.
where is that feature request..? ;)
oh, one more question: what happens if wu is not processed before report deadline?
currently using: boinc 5.8.15
