BTW this would have happened anyway. but if the cpu is 100% the power consumption is higher and power supply outputs lots of distortion (Ac on top of DC)

WOW. Crunching 24/7 made his processor disappear. Hmmm, Never seen that happen before.

Don't forget the heatsink and psu are also gone too. ;)

Well obviously the force from blowing the CPU off pushed the fan/heat sink right off with it! Duh! :-p

PSU??? I acknowledge it's not in the picture, but I'm pretty sure from that view, one shouldn't expect to see the PSU (power supply unit).

Yep, had that happen to me a couple of times over the years but then again, I have some PII and PIII systems that (other than patching and required reboots) have been running pretty much 24/7 for years with no problems - except with SETI goes down...

I rarely turn off my systems but then again, I am kinda weird...
I gotta fever and the only prescription is more cowbell.
