Message 640639 - Posted: 13 Sep 2007, 23:36:09 UTC - in response to Message 640638.

Okay, I'm in luck!

I found the original sources for last night's "Thread Busters" on Google, by doing a picture search with their exact titles. The perpetrator didn't remember to change the titles before posting them. ;)

I've added links for them on the Huge Picture thread that John started, so you can have a look at them.

Thanks for your expression of regret, Myst. I should tell you that I've been a victim in the past of this same person. I don't want to mention his name right now, to keep this matter on the topic of the misconduct, rather than the who-it-is.

But I should clarify for you Myst, that on this occasion last night, it was Chris S that was the victim here, on his new "Rocky's Coffee Club III point 3" thread.

But having been through that pain, I won't stand to see anyone do it to anyone else. I don't care who they are, or who they think they are.

Let me guess...

Please don't. LOL

Let's keep to the topic. The point is that other people have been banned for this, and whether the perpetrator here will be banned just the same as them.

Because, so far, this hasn't happened.

Playing with personalities distracts from the issue: Whoever does this should be banned for a month (as the others were, if memory serves). I don't care if it's a friend or someone I dislike. In this case the "who" doesn't matter a bit.

The ban is the only way to keep our forums clean from such filthy behavior, imho.

Forgiveness

That's very tempting, M'Gray. It shows what a good-hearted person you are. :)

But it's a bad thing when this happens. You haven't been the victim of it like I have. It ruins your thread. And what if the moderators wait hours, sifting through their many complaints, to get to correct it? And what if the perpetrator turns 'round and then just afterward does it again?

No, unfortunately this is misconduct below the minimum standards that we can afford to allow. We already presumptively ban people for posting insulting signatures now. This is much worse. The nasty signatures, while annoying to people they're directed against, do not disrupt the threads or the servers.

This kind of misconduct does. Does it ever! (You weren't around in the "Bad Old Days").

I understand and feel bad for all involved.

I've done some pushing and have been pushed. It hurts both ways and always perpetuates itself. Free energy, it seems, is negative energy.

“To forgive is to set a prisoner free and discover that the prisoner was you.”

~Lewis B. Smedes

Please forgive my input. I don't want to make anyone angry with me.

It's not just a matter of "pushing and being pushed" though, M'Gray. I hope I can get you to understand that.

It's a matter of "NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW".

It's a matter of consistency of forum enforcement.

It's a matter of "Let the punishment fit the crime".

But most importantly, it's a matter of minimum standards of acceptable behavior, which every member must adhere to.

Without which, the forums cannot sustain themselves, nor ever be the kind of place we want them to be.

Somebody stretched a thread to Kingdom Come last night..twice!
That's a bannable offence around here! Always has been.
Is it time for a roast?

Blame Misfit! LOL

+

Let me put it this way:

Approve? Disapprove?

I can't seem to find the thread n images now so can not respond directly either way.

I have in the past linked an image or two and people have been kind enough to PM me to say they looked 'MaSSive' on their screens. I simply copied and reduced the images and all was well.

If we are going to complain about peoples actions we need to give direct evidence or names and content.

Sadly because posts get deleted or hidden all-together rather than shifted to an 'under review' folder no one that was not around can truely respond to your question.

Sometimes I review the SETI forum off my old PDA or Palm mobile phone... on these even images over 160 pixels wide look ultra massive to me.

On a similar-ish point - I'm a vegetarian and find photos of dead roasted creatures more problematic than someone who might test out the pixel width of SETI forum script.

I have to live with both - though whilst an extra wide image is just deleted I seem to have to keep viewing slaughtered cooked creatures on SETI without anyone ever saying a word.

However I won't complain about images of slaughtered and cooked animals because it is what my fellow people do.

People also post extra wide images sometimes for many reasons good, bad or just erroneous.

What I am saying is that I often have to put up with images that do not make me feel good but I accept they are from people who I would rather have in our community than reprimand.

One or two posts of extra wide images are nothing..

The most it needs is a word with the people / person involved....

... or a thread title that just talked about acceptable image widths so we (and all new posters) could all just join in and find common ground.

.. and here was me looking at a roast thread because I thought someone was going to offer a good receipe for honey'd parsnips or something...

Sorry :o)~

I promise to post some honey'd parsnips on Beethoven's soon. :)

In this case, the evidence is not a problem. I copied the complete thread, in time; the perpetrator was caught red-handed.

The perpetrator's name is on his posts; the thread copy is availale. And the offensive pics? I saved them seperately, as well. The links are from original sources still available on the internet. The perpetrator failed to change their titles before posting these nasty "Thread Busters".

So all the evidence is there, beyond a reasonable doubt. It's available for Eric and the administrators any time they want to see it. ;)

Friends, opponents, Setizens,

I feel I've had my say.

I want to thank all the members here for posting. You did us all proud. On an issue that could easily inspire hostility and flaming, everyone here posted in a mature, helpful, and thoughful way. (Your humor was not wasted on me, Pawly).

Thank you all for posting, and also to those who didn't post but read. And to all who refrained from hostile or hijacking posting.

Thank you kindly for your participation.

The rest is up to Eric and the administrators.

This thread is now closed.

You don't have to post here, by the way.

But I'm afraid of no one, and I voice my disapproval of such conduct.

It was dealt with by other moderators. Where did you get the idea that thread stretching requires an automatic ban?

Precedent. Ask Monday, he was banned for it. Others, too. :)

Edit: That may explain for you, Tom, why we haven't seen such conduct around the boards for a very long time.

Well, Beethoven, I looked and I can not find where Monday was banned for posting large pictures. Do you have more information?

[Edit]: This post crossed your last post. I will close the thread and you can PM me if you find anything.
