HI....
My name is Mark, and I am a Setiholic.

I gotta ask ya.....

How many of you out there are among those who have spent countless hours drinking whiskey, smoking too many cigarettes, refreshing the stats screens incessantly, buzzing the forums every few seconds or so, looking for any new post that you might be able to get a second word in, and otherwise being totally obsessed with this quest (I like that word, quest) when you know darn well that in 6-5-4-3-2 hours you have to get up to work 8 hours of overtime? And if one of the crunchers crashes in the meantime, all bets are off as to whether you will show up at work at all. The kitties wanna know.

Can't say I'm that bad. Though I do keep an eye on the forum boards during my day. But I don't lose any sleep over them.

And I don't worry about the computers. All but one run part time, rarely on at night. The dual core is where I 'work' which is actually postgrad research study and runs all the time (that's why my RAC is up a bit from last year). Has a big enough cache to get through the weekend most times. So I just let it go. Most of the time it behaves. Sometimes it will do something but I don't have a fit or heart attack over it.

Never surrender and never give up. In the darkest hour there is always hope.

Hello. My name is Mackenzie and I am a Setiholic.

I recently considered trading one of my children for the new two chip, quad core monster Intel is offering (eight cores a-crunching!)

Then I realized that I don’t actually have any children...

And another tragedy, narrowly averted.

I am a setiholic and have now managed to lift my RAC to 700.

I am not interested in the science, only the competition.

I have given up work to supervise the output of my 2 Pentium 3 PCs, and I am planning to bludge a dual Xeon Neleham (with 16 cores per CPU) as soon as I can convince the Department of Work and Pensions to cough up the moozola to buy it!
It's good to be back amongst friends and colleagues
