Blurf, Roms directions for the vbs removal is here. There should be either ONE boinc manager shortcut (B) icon, OR a Boinc Manager Script file. I found mine had both. I might be on to something else to find this crash. My 4800 started doing it this morning. I can reproduce what I'm seeing. Whenever "proteins" runs with another project on my dual cores the "cpu useage" as viewed by taskmanager goes crazy (like 93/4, 50/49, 73/23, etc) instead of 50/50, 50/49, 49/50. The machine had crashed and I watched the useage as the 10 projects I'm attached to ran. My CI (connection interval) is "0", and additional cache is "0.01" so I don't have alot of work at any time. Anyway, the minute it switched from "riesel and spinhenge" to "riesel and Proteins" the %'s when nuts. Then sometime after the desktop crashed. I rebooted and it ran "proteins and Primegrid" with crazy readings, then it switched to another Primegrid unit and crashed. After Reboot, it ran "proteins and QMC" and crashed. So, the question is "do you run Proteins"? Or if not, then I run these currently, do we have any in common? Freaky, Proteins and Malaria just started running and the cpu time display for Proteins is flashing from ------ to 00:00:01 and back and forth. Doh, it just crashed again, but this time just the manager closed. [edit] I reopened the boinc manager and Proteins kept the same action up until just now and the desktop crashed. The proteins site is down, I have units waiting for upload, but only this one on the 4800 to finish. The app name is Boinc Xplor Win32 7.30, and the wu name is 1H90.SH2-107-10_6 |

All hail to Starfleet! 8-D My Andromeda has been up and running since March of 1999. I've had the name Andromeda; however, since 1982 during my Dungeons and Dragons days in High School. I attempted to create a universe based upon Star Trek. My U.S.S. Andromeda is based upon the original Dreadnought specifications. Of course; since the Dreadnought was not officially used in/on Star Trek, I "enhanced" the design. (Think Pegasus of Next Generation... With even more mods besides the Phased Cloak.) She, (well at least in my created universe), was the first Starship to have a fully detachable Saucer Section that implemented the mag lock tech used in Next Generation; thus allowing a successful reattach to the main drive section without needing a stint in dry dock. (Remember, according to both the original Tech Manual and in Star Trek the original series that separating the saucer section employed explosive bolts. Thus once separated, only a stint in dry dock with a core of engineers will reattach the saucer to the drive section.) I was very VERY creative in the early and mid 1980's. I still have my written specs and designs packed in a box. Also; as far as I am aware, I believe that with my designs and ship names that I am the first to utilize the name Andromeda for a Starship. (1982. Game time period of Earth Year 2672; Starship U.S.S. Andromeda B.D.C. 9777-3. Commanded by Commodore Scott Kenneth Anders. < Copyright: SAK 1982 to 2007. >) Anyway, back to the purpose of this Thread... I'm still on 5.10.7 on Farragut, no problems to report. Hi, Blurf, Roms directions for the vbs removal is.... ....There should be either ONE boinc manager shortcut (B) icon, OR a Boinc Manager Script file. I've already chipped in on this subject in another forum, but regarding this ".vbs" file there's no sign of it on my system and I'm experiencing these desktop crashes about once a week (and have been since v5.9.5). My update sequence was 5.8.16 -> 5.9.5 -> 5.10.8. ....So, the question is "do you run Proteins"? Nope. Or if not, then I run these currently, do we have any in common? Only "Spinhenge" and "uFluids". My latest crash occurred when BOINC was switching from Einstein to Spinhenge. TTFN - Pete (considering v5.10.12....). |

Rom believes he's found the cause, and cure. A new Alpha version is due out soonish. What I found happening (both on my computers and from reports of members like yourselves) was that some apps were continually restarting. Some referred to it as "looping" (Proteins). The app would shut down, boinc would restart it after the "no heartbeat" message(refers to loss of comms between boinc and the science app), or atleast that's my speculation. Reports from Hydrogen, Simap, Proteins, Seti have reported this, and from the reports I saw, there was NO common project. Anyway, something in Boinc is likely causing this. Heres' part of the changelog: Change Log: and here's some words from Rom. We think this bug was prompted by compound applications that were unable to shutdown within 10 seconds when BOINC told them too. BOINC then attempted to kill all the spawned processes for the app. Time will tell, once he gets it released. |

I've just experienced the Dissapearing Explorer crash for the first time. Using BOINC 5.10.7 since 20th June without problems until now. Previous version was 5.9.12 I have just added a Desktop Wallpaper today (same as my new Avatar). Screensaver is Blank Screen. Other programs that were running were: Opera ver. 9.21 BoincView ver. 1.4.2 Task Manager Screen was in Screensaver when BOINC switched tasks. All programs quit/crashed. stdoutdae.txt wrote:
