Who likes the new Apple iPhone?? www.apple.com/iphone

In the US, it is out in June
In Europe, it will be out in the 4th quarter.

Regardless of price, which many say is too expensive, what do you all think to it?

Could this and the iPod make Mac OS X more popular?

Do you want an iPhone?

I strongly supported that this. I certainly would not buy an iPhone, they had no value to life and, indeed, wasted exceedingly great deal of time.

Mobile phones are awful people to contact each other but they are very intrusive. It is impolite to answer a mobile call when you're already in conversation with a colleague, and people that don't turn their mobiles off when they're in the cinema/restaurant/pub/any other public place should have it confiscated.

Regarding the use of mobiles as a phone, that's okay. Phones with cameras and many other features including Internet capability should be trashed. A phone is a phone that has a phone!

It's good to be back amongst friends and colleagues

I think this was discussed some time ago here on this board, so I can only repeat what I wrote back then.

First, the iPhone is not supported here where I live, I don't know if it will be when released here, but I'm very happy with my phone provider, so if they don't support it I certainly don't plan to change to a provider which does.

And second, my iPod is far from obsolete, so I don't plan to exchange that with the iPhone either.

I don't know if the iPhone or iPod will sell more Mac's, as even my favorite music player is iTunes, I don't plan to buy a Mac to use it on. I really like the design and the use of Mac's, as I have worked on one, but I wouldn't trade my PC with a Mac. Maybe a second computer, I don't know, but then I'd have to need a Mac for something specifically. Which I don't at the moment.

Apple will always have their fans, and true, some systems work best on Macs, such as some graphic programs, where Mac is leading, you get the best animation and rendition programs for Mac. I'm not so much into these programs, there are others here who know a lot more about this field, so maybe they will chip in here?

... SNIP ...
Could this and the iPod make Mac OS X more popular?

Do you want an iPhone?

Personally no. It's a closed platform and the apps that can be added will (primarily) come from Apple. (That is until it get's unlocked and moders get their hands on it..)

I have a Treo that does near everything and a few more things the iPhone does except with a smaller screen.

If I want widescreen I just take my old Sony NX73 with me.

I have recently thought about upgrading to a large screen smartphone (PDAphone) so I could simply carry one item rather than two. Partly due to price at the moment I don't feel any will give me much better than I get from my two old devices.

When they become cheaper and faster and their new OSs don't grow in size just to gobble up any benefits from increased memory or CPU power then I might take a second look.

The iPhone looks more like an fasionable entertainment device than a bussiness like phone.

In that sense I think if it is able to penetrate the consumer market it looks like it might be aiming at (hip, trendy, fasion conscious, younger, popular, music lover?) it may help make Mac OS X more popular... but as a fasion or life style apendage as opposed to a serious computer.

There are ton's of other smartphones on the market. I'm not sure except for aestetics and it's Applness' what this phone adds of any benefit over the best from the other types (Palm, Windows, Linux..)

I truely hate the mobile phone market because it tends to (at large) go for tweaky little upgrades (often just cosmetic and entertainment based) and sells them as the next big thing :o(

Sorry.. I probably wrote more than you asked for :o))

everything you said, Fuzzy, is true. I exclusively used Macs during my time in University - because I studied graphic design. To this day, I use Macs for work - quite honestly, despite Windows/PCs catching up a lot, Macs are still ahead in this area. A good rule of thumb - for graphic rendering/manipulation of all forms, Macs are superior. For everything else, Windows/IBM machines excel.

I dont think I would want one... they are good though... But id rather wait until somebody brings out an even bigger invention.

People make fun of the iPhone about everything it can do, like it does music, photos, email, texting, also a star wars sword comes out of the top, and it can be used to "beam" you places instantly, like on Star Trek, it can also double into a laser gun etc.. lol.. you know.. lol

The iPhone has all this hype around it, Apple and even the news, is promoting it as if everyone wants an iPhone... but do people really want one lol?? Funny, I have been monitoring stocks since Jan 07, and Apple (AAPL) seem to keep going down and down, whereas Microsoft (MSFT), seem to be going up up and up. Why is there so much hype around the iPhone? Loadsa people have an iPod, but will iPhone be like the iPod in popularity I wonder.

Will iPod ever die I wonder??
