Message 577167 - Posted: 28 May 2007, 3:31:17 UTC

Just today this message appeared on the bottom right of my computer just above the clock. I checked my account and the account number is there. Why is this message there and how would I reset the account number? It doesn't show where to go to do it. Is it a fluke because of all the work their doing at SETI to improve the running of it? I'm at a loss trying to figure out whats going on. Any Ideas?

I have heard that many people are having this problem, I would suggest just waiting for a bit. There may be other instructions later, but I am hoping that the adminstrators can get the problem fixed at the server with no action needed on the clients.

I just got this message on one of my own machines. I'm looking at the server logs to see if I can figure out why it is occurring.

Eric, don't know what caused it, but rebooting fixed it for me and at least one other person fixed it by shutting down BOINC completely and restarting BOINC. Another person reported that updating their preferences and then updating the PC via the BOINC manager fixed it.

Just giving you the infomation I have so you don't have to search the boards for it.

But why is this happening to many all at once?

Once is happenstance. Twice is coincidence. Thrice is enemy action.

Hi Andrea,

There has been a few server problems that have plagued SETI for the better part of the month. Hopefully when they shut down the project for maintenance today, they'll have it all fixed again.

I got a few of those messages, but the problem seemed to sort itself out a couple of hours later—no relaunch or reboot was required.
