I came upon this site here http://lunatics.at/windows/windows-optimized-setihome-clients-initial-public-release.0.html

and im trying to figure out, is that program any different from the program download from here at seti@home website? Does it have a graphics version?

If it is different and is suppose to run faster Can someone help me out on downloading the right one?

It is different. I am not sure, if there is a graphics version of the optimized application.

Try this one. Just use 7-zip or PowerArchiver to unpack those files into C:\\Program Files\\BOINC\\projects\\setiathome.berkeley.edu . Those files will actually go into directory C:\\Program Files\\BOINC\\projects\\setiathome.berkeley.edu\\KWSN Ni! 2.2B - SSE . There's also a subdirectory called "Files to install". There are three files in it. Move those three files to your C:\\Program Files\\BOINC\\projects\\setiathome.berkeley.edu -directory and restart BOINC. That should work.

It is hard to say, but maybe roughly twice as fast.

i really wanted the graphics

Ok. You can try this one.

They say that the optimized graphical application is somewhat slower than the no-graphical version, but it is still much faster than the stock application (the official SETI@home application).

wow. i went ahead and got the one with the graphics instead and the bar at the top is flying across..............how come seti doesnt offer this program instead of theirs? i mean if it runs this much faster..

kinda going off topic but my last question, I noticed that after my computer finishes a WU the graphics window closes when it starts a new one, is there anyway i can get the graphics window to stay open or reopen after starting another WU?

Because the program that Seti offers has to be able to run on almost any computer that a user chooses to intall it on, without the user having to make choices or ask for assistance (such as you did). So it is more of a compromise, and not optimized for just one specific processor type. Some of the improvements that the optimizers have made have been added to the stock application, when they would work on all computers.
Those of us who know a little more about our computers and are comfortable with moving files around and such have the choice to use the optimized apps instead.

This is probably not possible at the moment. At least, I do not know how to do this.

One way, of course, is to use the BOINC screen saver. That'll show the graphics.

They say that the graphics will use your 3D-card's GPU, so it probably will not use very much of your CPU cycles. Correct me, if I am wrong.

There should be no difference between using the screensaver or leaving the graphics window open. You want to see the graphics always? With the screen saver you can choose the time when it will go blank. Go to Control Panel and choose Display. Choose Screen Saver. There you can choose BOINC screen saver. Click Options. There you can choose the time when it will go blank. You have to tick the "Go to blank screen".

It will start crunching a new WU and it will show also its graphics.

bah, so i left the screensaver option going, but i just woke up and i saw that it got an error..forgot what the error was, but i think its happening when it finishes a wu, it gets a major error and stops doing work.

The graphics, screensaver or clicking the button, really slow down crunching. If you're interested in boosting your numbers, you really should not use it.

That depends on the system architecture: as Henri pointed out, the vast majority of pixel-pumping is often handled by a GPU on the video card these days, slowing the CPU by only a percent or two—comparable to the penalty from leaving BOINC Manager’s focus in the Tasks pane. For those who like to watch the displays that’s a small price to pay.

Most of them clock about 40% faster on average...hey you traded the pretty colors for crunching power...watch your RAC rise.
