I may have something different going on. I have renamed app_info.xml files to app_info.xmlzzz on my machines and I am still running the enhanced versions... When I check task manager it shows the enhanced versions running. I DO NOT have the regular seti science app in the projects folder. All I have is the chicken apps...and a renamed app_info.xml file and the chicken versions are running fine. Uploading, downloading, etc. We are all Alien. It just depends on which planet you are standing on. |

even Beta seems to be accepting uploads, although the server's supposedly disabled. I was able to upload some beta results earlier in the week, but couldn't report them until about 5 minutes ago. Figured it was because the servers were disabled/not running, but I guess the beta server status page isn't quite right. Justin |

I may have something different going on. I have renamed app_info.xml files to app_info.xmlzzz on my machines and I am still running the enhanced versions.... Chances are that Windows does not recognize anything over 3 characters in the file designation. So what you added is clipped when it is looked for by the client. Change the name like adding a letter or number to the app_info to read like this vxapp_info.xml. so when it searches for the app file it can't recognize it and will not load it. I may have something different going on. I have renamed app_info.xml files to app_info.xmlzzz on my machines and I am still running the enhanced versions... As long as you maintain a queue balance, BOINC will continue to run chicken soup. If your queue ever runs out however, without the app_info.xml file BOINC will download the standard app and begin using that. This seems to be normal and has been reported by many during the "outage". |

The app is indeed very similar. So what your telling me is the new splitters wil be a completely new design which are primarily targeted on the linux platform and not solaris. Also from the link grant provided i understand that dat will indeed be stored on disk (altough there is stil reference to a tape drive) which would remove the slow reading process from tape. When running the splitter on a linux system whit the ability to read data from disk i imagien result creation rate could double maybe even triple. |

So what your telling me is the new splitters wil be a completely new design which are primarily targeted on the linux platform and not solaris. The multibeam splitter code isn't that much different from setiathome_enhanced. The basic task in both cases is to take data consisting of 256*1024*1024 complex data points, perform length 2048 forward FFTs then length 8 inverse FFTs to divide it into 256 subbands with 1024*1024 data points each. I think those computations would dominate the speed of the splitter, whether it's compiled for Solaris or Linux. Joe |

I may have something different going on. I have renamed app_info.xml files to app_info.xmlzzz on my machines and I am still running the enhanced versions... Ya, das is it Ya... I had a couple of machines that did download the science app...and WU's then I renamed the app_info.xml back to original and deleted all the science app stuff that was downloaded and havent seen it since. Cool to know. Thanks! We are all Alien. It just depends on which planet you are standing on. |

I may have something different going on. I have renamed app_info.xml files to app_info.xmlzzz on my machines and I am still running the enhanced versions... I'm not quite sure what you mean, because we do crunch Setiathome_enhanced WU's here. What you are referring to with the app_info.xml file is about the optimized application, most probably Chicken's optimized app. If you exit BOINC, not only minimize it to the tray, and restart it, you will see which application you run. If you run Chicken's app. then it will say: m/dd/yyyy h:mm:ss PM|SETI@home|Found app_info.xml; using anonymous platform "I'm trying to maintain a shred of dignity in this world." - Me |

I may have something different going on. I have renamed app_info.xml files to app_info.xmlzzz on my machines and I am still running the enhanced versions... If app_info.xml has a different name it won’t be recognized. However, those who used the renaming workaround before the server bug was fixed will be able to continue using their optimized appsâ€â€no matter what version the Manager thinks they areâ€â€as long as BOINC has a current association between that app and the version called for by the server. The only sure tests to identify an optimized app are by the process name shown in Task Manager / Activity Monitor / top while it’s running, and by the ‘signature’ in the output messages from a result page on the website. That’s assuming one still has a copy of the stock executable in the project folder, of course: its complete absence should be a bit of a clue that the stock app isn’t running. ;) |
