It was disappointing to see the nature of the line of "discussion" that this thread took. The lowest point was the subject of fluff in feminine navals. What was important was not that I had decided to leave SETI. After all it'll not make much difference. But it is why I quit that is worth discussing.

Since I mentioned "fluff" in one of my posts and you've characterized that as the "lowest point", here's my rub with all of this Keith. Up until sometime today, it didn't look like you had "left". You were still turning in some results.

Furthermore, you became utterly obsessed with these ghost work units from ages gone by. If you have taken some time to read around some, you'll find that many of us volunteers have come together (some not so nicely as others, but come together none-the-less), and have figured out at least a workaround for the current issue... The S@H staff are also aware of it and are looking at it. This is probably also over on the BOINC Dev forums (I haven't looked there, but I can't believe that it wouldn't be there by now).

Frankly, odds are that because of this outage and the fact that they did start sending out work again, what seems to be your major gripe with the project will end up being resolved.

Smile, and enjoy some fluff (or no fluff, if that's more to your liking)...

Brian

At least we know it's not just the "big farms" that were hogging all the WU's after all :)

Thanks for polite to-the-point reply. Much appreciated, rather than being fobbed off with the stock dismissive "Sweep it under the carpet" type replies.

My return to SETI was to clean up the accumulation of Stale results that had accumulated on my computers. This was to avoid the 3 week delay before the Results (not work units, by the way) were sent out again. Done, I assure you with the best of intentions on my part. I also returned out of curiosity to see if matters were improving, and I'm glad to see they are. I'm still keeping up-to-date on progress as I've "subscribed" to several threads as is evidenced by my replying here and now.

My obsession, or more preferably persistance, may or may not have played some part in getting the 10th August Stale results released. I don't care whether you, or anyone else, does or does not, gives me any credit for keeping the subject to the fore. The important thing is that it now appears to have been resolved, so I'm happy for that. And I apologise for any annoyance I may have given to those who were upset by my persistance.

The placing of my messages in the Cafe SETI was out of my control. For some reason, the thread was removed from Number Crunching (where I had felt it was appropriate) and was reinstated in Cafe SETI after which the line of the thread became somewhat frivolous. It was never my action to move the thread to Cafe SETI, I am sorry for the intrusion here, and hope I'm not upsetting too many of you by replying to Brian.

I may be back in a couple of months or so. I feel fairly confident there will then be no reason for me to exercise my "persistance" again!!
