FRONT PAGE NEWS!!!!

May 12, 2007
Update: We got the new server yesterday, inserted our old disks and booted it up. It came right up, but verifying the file systems took overnight. The work is being created, the splitters and assimilators are working. It will be a while before we catch up. Thank you for your continued patience and support.

Jeff, Eric, and whoever else is at the lab this weekend, AWESOME WORK!! All of you guys at UCB involved with this project need to be commended for doing such an outstanding job!! This project has sure come a long way in just a couple of years of migrating to the BOINC stuff, and its getting better and better all the time. I pray that you guys don't have any more major problems such as this one.

And to Sun, for getting a new replacement to the folks at UCB in such a timely fashion, thank you as well. Without you guys helping UCB/SETI with getting this stuff back up and running, this would not have gone as smooth as it has.

I see that somebody has already seen Seti workunits in his/her cache since this debacle. My many thanks to the entire Seti crew for its working overtime and its great effort in getting Seti back in shape. Ive set Einstein to accept no new tasks so that my machines can accelerate from 40 mph to 100 mph again.

Thank you Sun Microsystems, and thank you very much SETI@Home staff for the very quick recovery with the newly arrived Thumper chassis.

Great job in a difficult situation!

Simon.

It's around 6:35 pm here at the Space Sciences Lab, and Eric and Jeff are still up in the lab working on thumper. Everything's going well - the machine arrived with 48 drives in it, so they took 24 out and put in the 24 we had previously, turned it on, and everything is going well so far. Eric said he hoped to have thumper up and running today, so keep your fingers crossed. It's been that kind of week. My monitor died today, but luckily I found another good one in our spare parts room. It's got a nice flat screen, but it's still one of those huge CRT screens that weigh about 30 kg. And then when I had the monitor installed I couldn't access my account, because ewen was hung again. So Eric fixed that while getting thumper going. Just another day, the way things are lately. Actually, considering Eric usually doesn't come in on Fridays (he works at least 10 h/day M-Th), this is a big day in many ways.

not Matt

Than you guys for your efforts.
It's now 4.45PM in NYC and I still haven't receive any wu's. I hope all is going fine and I get some work soon.
Mark, Eric, Jeff and all the others at seti@home you're the best!!!

Remember that even though they are splitting units, it takes days to come back. Since the numbers were in the 1.5 Million in process, it will take a while to create that many. Plus everyone hitting the servers, it's going to hit hard for a few days.

So do not be surprised if you do not get work for a few days.

A couple of my machines did get work, so there is some out there, but others are telling me there is no work. It's a hit and miss.

Just wanted to say a big 'thanks' for all you work you guys do, now and over the past many many years!

Been running Seti since back in 1999, the only thing I miss these days is the green dish icon :-)

Nice one too to Sun for replacing the server.

Well done, but do try to get BOINC replica database working closer with master science database so that it continues when master science database decides to quit.
