It's around 6:35 pm here at the Space Sciences Lab, and Eric and Jeff are still up in the lab working on thumper. Everything's going well - the machine arrived with 48 drives in it, so they took 24 out and put in the 24 we had previously, turned it on, and everything is going well so far. Eric said he hoped to have thumper up and running today, so keep your fingers crossed. It's been that kind of week. My monitor died today, but luckily I found another good one in our spare parts room. It's got a nice flat screen, but it's still one of those huge CRT screens that weigh about 30 kg. And then when I had the monitor installed I couldn't access my account, because ewen was hung again. So Eric fixed that while getting thumper going. Just another day, the way things are lately. Actually, considering Eric usually doesn't come in on Fridays (he works at least 10 h/day M-Th), this is a big day in many ways.

Now that's really nice to know!

Somehow I couldn't really imagine the team being able to relax over the weekend knowing there was a shiny new machine screaming to be installed...

I know that I just wouldn't be able to resist getting on with it, and then being able to enjoy a satisfying and well-earned break...

Wishing you luck in getting all the processes running again painlessly...
Andy.

That's really cool of everyone! Next time I hear someone moan that the folks at Berkeley don't do much extra to show their passion, I'm going to point them here!

Thank you Kevin for filling us in, and I'm sure Matt appreciates your help in handling the "hoard" (us). Matt seems to be getting a very well deserved rest (as the rest of you deserve as well!).

And 48 drives already installed?!?! Wow! Sun went above and beyond the expectations, didn't they? Kudos to them. Did they say how big the drives were? At least you guys should be good on space for a while. 8-)

Looks like Matt got his wish, someone other than himself made a technical post.

Good luck on the build guys, we appreciated everything you've done.!!!

Thanks for the info, Kevin, it's really great news.

Yes, Eric is one of the most dedicated persons I've ever known. Thank you, Eric. :-)

Thx kevin for all the info.

I know that if we're really nervous to "see" thumper again, you, Eric, Matt, and the rest of the team will be HYSTERIC! ;)

You're making a very, very, very nice job, but as Geek@play said:

;)

Rest for a bit! ;)

PD: I know that Matt is musician too, but this way, he rests a bit from job.

You get up every morning
From your 'larm clock's warning
Take the 8:15 into the city
There's a whistle up above
And people pushin', people shovin'
And the girls who try to look pretty
And if your train's on time
You can get to work by nine
And start your slaving job to get your pay
If you ever get annoyed
Look at me I'm self-employed
I love to work at nothing all day
