Message 562639 - Posted: 8 May 2007, 2:09:29 UTC - in response to Message 560949.

My computer is happily crunching Seti Beta 4.17 WU's right now after I downloaded for 10 days of them.

Msattler, you and the kitties can spend your free time with this little task, I posted for you in your quit smoking thread.

It will keep you away from the ciggies also. ;-D

Thanx for the kitty card, Fuzzy! I'm trying to cut out the smoking bit, have cut way back, but still cheating a bit. Such a habit! I'm gonna keep trying 'till I kick it though.
Meanwhile, my first rig ran out of Seti WUs to crunch, so I connected it to Rosetta to keep the kitties occupied 'till the new Sun server is ready to roll and the splitters get back to work at Seti.

I can see the kitties are munching on the Seti Beta WU's. The queue is getting noticeable smaller day by day since they joined over there. :-D

Rosetta is getting my machine cycles for now. Ran out of SETI work a few days ago. When it comes back up Rosetta will be on-line to keep them busy when SETI has its Tuesday shutdowns (if I don't cache enough WUs in advance to ride on through). This WSU Cougar can only do so much for a project based at the uw. :-)

The kitties stay quite busy whilst I'm away at work keeping an eye on the computer banks. I think they do a pretty good job keeping them in line. Hope the Beta WUs hold out 'till Seti Main is back online, hopefully just two or three more days..........

Yes, the kitties are munching away happily on Beta. They have turned all their attentions there until Seti Main comes back on line. They would still like to have all their attention focused on the main project. When it comes back on line, I will reduce the resource share on Beta, but I will still crunch all of the WUs gathered there, because it would not be fair to abandon them just because the main project became viable again.

And I'm sure Eric is happy for getting rid of all the 4.17 WU's over there. Good kitties! :-)

You know, you really shouldn't be using Chicken on Beta. It kind of defeats the purpose of Beta......besides which you also get less credit per WU.

Noticed something interesting. I have my preferences set to 10 days and had a lot of work units save up. My fastest computers still have some work units, but all of my slower ones used up thier WU days ago. They all will be out of units by days end today. By fastest I mean my computers with RAC over 1,500. My computers with RAC below 500 used up thier WU the quickest. Of course they had fewer united stored. Just wondering if anyone else noticed this.

My two are the same way but on Monday, I think, I took one of the cores on my duo and I'm running other projects with it so the one core will have more to process. My slowest computer ran out of work yesterday morning I believe and it was set on 10 days as is my duo.

Oh, Fuzzy. Looks like the kitties are in a bit of a tangle over on Beta. They were unaware that the Chicken apps are frowned upon over there. I am trying to back down to the stock app, but the first rig I tried it on responded by trashing all of the Beta WUs.
I have posted in the Beta NC forum for help in backing off the Chicken attack.
The kitties say they are sorry.

I believe you have to hit NNT and finish your current cache of WUs before you can revert back to the stock app.

Thanx, I will do that quickly before I have to run off to work shortly. Want to get this fixed as soon as I can.

Or, you could edit your app_info.xml and just input the file name of the stock app, which works instantly (if you stop BOINC before and re-start it afterwards, anyway).

Yes, that will be the best solution.

I didn't tell you that op. app.'s are frowned at over there, because I thought you wouldn't use it over there.

But no harm done. It will be good to have the 4.17 app. tested on your systems and with your settings, because your kittie farm is pretty advanced. But you will get less credit for them. And for the crashed WU's they'll be recycled.

But yes, Seti Beta is about testing the app.'s before they are released over here. And I think your kitties could be very useful over there.

I gave the kitties Rosetta on all my rigs with a share of one so they could keep occupied over the weekend. Looks like the WUs at Beta have been crunched up.
