They recommend several project to move to, including S@H. http://forum.grid.org/phpBB/viewtopic.php?p=599007#599007 Dublin, California Team: SETI.USA ![]() |

They recommend several project to move to, including S@H. Not a good Idea as for 3 months, Arecibo is closed...and we only have so much already backlogged...supposedly 3 months worth...just. I imagine most will end up on WCG. me@rescam.org |

Personally, I am disappointed they pointed to individual projects, rather than to BOINC. "Grid.org has completed its established mission to prove the benefits and viability of Internet-based grid computing." Seems to me that they missed their own message. Dublin, California Team: SETI.USA ![]() |

A slighty offtopic question if i may... Why is BOINC linking to World Grid Computing? This seems to be a completely different grid, with no apparent connection to BOINC... And they do not even provide any backlink to BOINC page. |

A slighty offtopic question if i may... It may not be obvious WCG is also a part of the Boinc community. I crunch 4 projects through Boinc WCG. FightAIDS@Home Genome Comparison Help Defeat Cancer Human Proteome Folding 2 Boinc V7.2.42 Win7 i5 3.33G 4GB, GTX470 |

A slighty offtopic question if i may... WCG uses UD and BOINC as clients. In fact, they are migrating to BOINC, as the UD client can use only a single thread. Within WCG, they run several projects (5 or 6 going on now) all at the same time. Sorta like S@H is planning on running S@H and AstroPulse here. It's kinda like a mini BOINC community within BOINC. In fact, WCG gives a number of smaller projects the opportunity to be able to run their projects. Most of them are short term but important projects that could help develop new and safe cures for cancer and other illnesses. ![]() If you are from Greece, please visit the following: Sicence Fiction and Fantasy Forum The World of Science |

... and make rich anyone who will discover the cure, using volunteer`s computer time, not needing to buy it... nvm. Still, if WCG is using BOINC, they should provide link and info about BOINC and other BOINC projects. This is what nettiquette demands. |

They recommend several project to move to, including S@H. They also recommend Distributed Folding, which was cancelled years ago. Really on the ball they are. Join Team Starfire BOINC Chat |

I retry BOINC for now with differents projects on board. Welcome onboard! Perhaps grid.org ran out of funds? Happy crunchin', Martin See new freedom: Mageia Linux Take a look for yourself: Linux Format The Future is what We all make IT (GPLv3) |

www.theregister.co.uk reports this death but does not even mention BOINC and its projects. Brits don't like it because it comes from a former colony? Tullio |

www.theregister.co.uk reports this death but does not even mention BOINC and its projects. The Register article is Cancer grid research. That article is more about the Register's push of their "Vulture" group for chasing stats rather than about grid.org itself. It singularly fails to mention anything of Boinc... The usual media author ignorance? Brits don't like it because it comes from a former colony? Ask the author? You can hardly extrapolate that out to all Brits?! Any details about grid.org for their successes and why the end? And prediction wouldn't be a really good one to promote so it is good they didn't since they allow cheaters and punnish people who speak up about it... |

And has that debacle calmed down yet?... Happy crunchin', Martin See new freedom: Mageia Linux Take a look for yourself: Linux Format The Future is what We all make IT (GPLv3) |

From an "outsider" observation, both sides seem to keep stirring the pot... |

In short, no, it has not calmed down. Predictor is now deleting the accounts of those that brought up the problem in the first place. With an indication that they are no longer welcome. ![]() ![]() BOINC WIKI |

Sure glad that's contained to one project...from the sidelines it seems like both sides had a point but I'd have to say that their project staff could have handled that one a lot better maybe a touch up on their intra-project PR skills or hey maybe just post from the start that it's being looked into...now deleting peoples accounts and telling them that they are "not welcome" is really crossing the line IMO...that's why I crunch exclusively for SETI...great staff, a solid project, good mod's and the staff communicates with the dedicated crunchers working with them. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
