I have enough WUs cached to last at least 3 days, but I have just read about 10 different threads complaining about failed Uploads or Downloads.

There is a solution:

Choosing BOINC projects
Choosing a BOINC Powered Project
Catalog of BOINC Powered Projects

If you can't crunch for SETI for a few days, try adding another project to BOINC.

Bumping this thread back to page 1.

SETI seems to be almost out of work at the moment. I run 3 projects on my fastest PC; SETI and SETI Beta only on the 2 slow ones.

I have all my projects set at 2.5 day CI and have not run out of work since using these settings.

I would like comments from those running other projects about what you like and dislike about those projects?

CPDN and Rosetta.

Rosetta is great - always work, good project news/communication etc.
CPDN because climate change is topical : )

I would not recommend CPDN as a backup project because of the time/unit, usually 1000+ hrs, as a second primary project yes.

I would say a backup project is one where you set the resource share very low and it only crunches work when the primary project has no work, or off-line.

I'm attached to many "backup" projects, due to the team I'm on with all of them, we do a Project Of The Month every month. One piece of advise that I was once told was to go to the different project sites, read about what the project does, if it interests you, attach and crunch it. I remember when I first started out, SETI was my main, and Einstein was my backup. Now I've got over 20 projects that I do. My whole thing is I just try to help out where I can, the work being done serves a purpose one way or another.

But as I suggested above, check out the different project websites, read up on them. That should help you decide what you would be interested in and want to have as a backup project.

How do you change the resource share in BOINC? I usually don't like adding a second project because then it takes up half the processing time. If I could do like 90% Seti and like 10% Einstein I think that would be ideal for what I want to do.

Your Account -> SETI@Home Preferences -> Resource share

then for Einstein (on the Einstein@Home website):

Your Account -> Einstein@Home Preferences -> Resource share

For instance, I have SETI@Home set to use 85% of my resources (not that numbers in the webpage are not necessarily percentage based), and Rosetta@Home has 15%.

That's a good point; SETI isn't really a 'primary' project for me, it ends up getting around 40% with the other 30/30 going to Rosetta/CPDN.

I agree that as a 'backup' as you've defined (well), CPDN isn't so good.

You only need to change one of them: BOINC doesn’t care what the numbers add up to, and can determine the percentage regardless. For example, if you set your S@h resource share to 1000, the first backup project you add, left at its default 100 share, would get 100/1100 = 9.1% of your CPU time. If you then add another project you’d run S@h 1000/1200 = 83.3% of the time, with each of the other two at 100/1200 = 8.3%.

Bumping back to page 1 while SETI main is out of work.
SETI Beta still has work ATM, I just got 2 WUs there.
If you decide to join SETI Beta, please read the Beta message boards http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/beta/forum_index.php
