Hello All: Despite all of the negative posts here. Rom has somehow held his own and continued to improve our experience. I have the new 4.08 build and I hope it cures the bugs he found. It appears from my box that things are up and running at SETI. Rom, thank you from a satisfied customer. Given this board, I may be one of the few. I sure appreciate your posts as to progress and all that you do and have done. WCK |

My sincerest apologies to John and JAF: This is untested software and should be used at your own risk. However, JAF is right that John said nothing bad about the project or Rom and I should not have quiped back. My error. Sorry. WCK |

Version 4.08 is running better then the versions before :-), but know there isn't shown that a projet is premted. I can only read ready to run. Are others projekts premted or not? > Version 4.08 is running better then the versions before :-), but know there > isn't shown that a projet is premted. I can only read ready to run. > Are others projekts premted or not? In 4.08 projects that used to show as pre-empted, are now shown as 'paused'; in the messages tab, if you've properly set your preferences, projects that are paused show as 'left in memory', unfortunately I don't know what the new equivalent of 'quit' is. Oops, nearly forgot, the time slicing seems to be being honoured correctly in 4.08, i.e. giving seti 100, and cpdn 50, results in seti getting 2 hours processing every 3 hours. The terminology used in the program seems to be a lot more 'general user' friendly, as opposed to being only understandable by techies. I don't know yet if 4.08 is running any better on my systems, but so far I haven't had any problems at all, no pauses, crashes, or screwups, it's running sweet. A system I think is suffering from a memory leak on 4.05 (win2000 advanced server) still needs to be updated, the machine runs, but seems to eventually need to access virtual memory to do even very simple things, I'm just not sure I dare remotely restart it, after remotely updating it, to re-initialise everything, might actually have to go home :-) > > The whole is more then the sum of its particles. > Aristoteles > Best wishes from Berlin(52°35'N,13°23'O), Basti > S@h Berkeley's Staff Friends Club © member > Ken Phillips - UK |

The notation about the heartbeat didn't have a time stamp but there was as many lines as there was for each of the zero status in the message tab. The program starts the WU back up after the CPU interuption is over in my case a game played by my dad. V4.08 doesn't require an exit and restart anymore like V4.05. But I don't think it should be sending an error message because the WU's finish and upload alright. Hopefully it will be fixed because this is an alpha release not a public release and I'm using at my own risk. |

I tracked it down to a piece of webcam software i'd been using to keep an eye on my house in my absence, the thing must have coincidently gone a bit flakey, I am, however, a bit concerned about a CPDN unit who's completion time has now ballisticly risen to 19000+ hours, so I'm considering a reset on that one, however, I've read that CPDN wu's aren't re-issued to anyone else, so I don't want really want to ditch it yet, Seti@home continues to crunch well, if very slightly slower than on previous boinc versions.
