But why do we as humans have to jump to such drastic conclusions. They see a light in the sky. It must be aliens! How do we get from seeing a light in the sky to aliens? Seems like a pretty big jump to me. (I'm not accusing anyone here of jumping to such conclusions) In other words, when multiple competing theories are equal in other respects, the principle recommends selecting the theory that introduces the fewest assumptions and postulates the fewest hypothetical entities. It is in this sense that Occam's razor is usually understood. Aliens or ourselves? We have no proof as of yet that there are other intelligences in the universe. If there are they would have to know we exist. And they would need a reason and the technology to come here. On the other hand we know that we have thousands of airplanes and spacecraft. These spacecraft and airplanes either have lights of their own or they reflect light not only in the visible spectrum but also in the infrared. Also UFOs can be easily faked. I could see how it could be a rush to someone to fake a UFO so that on the nightly news they can see all the people who reported seeing a UFO. ID: 540946 ·

I am confident there are others. Thats why I run SETI. We are here. Thats proof that the laws of the universe permit matter to assemble itself into a conscious form. With billions of galaxies and billions of stars per galaxy it would surprise me if we are alone. I am just saying that it is highly unlikely that UFOs are spaceships from other civilizations.
