I'll leave you guys to speculate over the 200th post. I'm off to savour a little single malt I have hidden away downstairs!

What's in yer glass this evening John?

Just a dram or two of this fine unblended 12 year old

As soon as that goes, then I will be stealing content from this one followed, over a few weeks, by a dip in to the Portwood 1991
It's good to be back amongst friends and colleagues

hello again, looks like I missed alot ... fill me in here, does the number of times you post affect the win? I see that John Clark closes the thread, but can he do it when ever he wants? like musical chairs?

From what I can see Stacey, he'll close it sometime after the 1000th post.

BTW, I like your avatar. Not as much class as mine....... KIDDING.

THe rules are simple...post, post, post! Around 1000 posts (or as John sees fit!) THe thread is closed and the winner showered with accolades!!

Stacey, This was posted by Chris S. for you & I

Message for

Dune Finkleberry & Stacey Jane

If you email me on this

boincnewbie@yahoo.co.uk

I'll talk you through it step by step from the absolute basics. I am a teacher at my local technical college for level 1 and 2 IT, so I am aware how daunting it can be reading the posts on the number crunching thread as a beginner.

MMMMMMMMmmmmmmmm........Balvenie. I began my love afair with fine scotches (and whiskeys) while working at The Royal Meridian King Edward. Hard to beat The Macallan, but Balvenie comes very close in my opinion. I also love Bowmore!

Oh yes, he is like that, on a whim.

Hey I set up a special email for Stacey and Dune. Contact me at boincnewbie@yahoo.co.uk and I'll help you if I can.

BTW Chris & emailed you. You can reply whenever you reply to Stacey. I do so appreciate the help, but it looks like I'm good to go.

Hello there Stacey

A direct answer to your question would be yes, but we all play to a loose rule.

Post in to this thread a many or as few times that you want. The trick is to try and be the last post before I declare the thread closed. However, I cannot win.

HISTORY LESSON mode on

If you go to the Cafe thread choices you can scroll down to a thread that was last posted to about 22 hours ago.

This is titled The Last Person to Post Wins = CLOSED, and had 43,000 and more posts to it's credit.

Unfortunately, this thread became so large and competitive it was affecting the server memory, bandwidth and processor capacity.

Indeed Matt L (one of the few SETI/SSL project staff) pointed out it affected the capacity of the SETI project, so it was stopped.

After some time it was agreed that these competition threads could be resumed, provided they were not allowed to grow too large. It was run by Timmy (Captain Avatar) to number 13, when it was handed over to me!

HISTORY LESSON mode off

We generally let the thread run to somewhere around 1,000 posts, give or take a bit, then see who is last and I close the thread. The last post is the thread winner.

You can see this by looking back 20 odd hours to the thread titles LPTPW#22.

Oh bye-the-bye, the give or take on 1,000 may stretch up to 1,300, just make it more interesting and competitive. This way no one can try and predict when the thread is closed.

BTW .... I win!
It's good to be back amongst friends and colleagues

I have reduced several bottles of The MacCallan to empty, as have I the Bowmore.

If I remember right from my last distillery holiday, The MacCallan also supply a special to The Houses of Parliament?

Captain Pawly, you have 69 souls to your credit.

But Ice is getting jealous, tomorrow I'm going to give my soul to him. Sorry, birthday is over.

It's so nice to finally feel like I belong somewhere. I just sent an e-mail out to Chris, I'll be doubling my RAC (whatever that means) in no time

It's a shame I don't have a spot to set up my own super duper computer. I can't tell you it's spec's 'cause I don't have a clue, but the guy who put it together for me seemed to think it was pretty great. He was even drooling a bit. Those techy guys get excited about wierd stuff.

RAC means Recent average credit. Or how much you're crunching for SETI.

ah, good to know, yes I should improve that ... this computer probably has to much junk bogging it down as it is. I want my own.
