Message 529828 - Posted: 11 Mar 2007, 20:41:04 UTC - in response to Message 529813.

Back to winning while working.

Oooh - working on Sunday! How bad if you have family...
What a pity

Yes, I do have a family. My job is a 24/7 job. We are here all the time. I'm off work in about 2 hours, and I have the rest of the afternoon with my kids. :-) Not a big deal. My wife also works. My mom babysits. I don't have enough seniority in my job to get good days off, at least on dayshift hours. On graveyard, thats a different story, but then, I would be working at night, sleeping during the day.

And, I can't complain about the pay either. Making almost $27USD/hr is nothing to sneeze at for only a high school diploma. :-)

I hear you there, interviews seem to take a turn in the wrong direction when the interviewer notices that I'm not part of the "club".

LOL Well, I started this job after all my surgeries were done on my leg. I started in 1999. I was 20 when I started, just before my 21'st birthday. I'm 29 now. So making this kind of money, with no college degree's, is not bad.

Yeah, I got caught in the Food & Beverage trap. Hard work and harder play!;) The money is ok and I eat VERY well.

Anyway

I win!

Well, financially you're lucky guys...
during the last 10 years I either worked as a temporary worker no matter how long or which job for 7€/hr maximum, just to have a job - or I took some trainings - which have given me the qualifications to 5 different professions by now... But when I send in my CV's, I'm either "too old" or "over-qualified" or have "too little working experience in this subject" - is it wrong to avoid being unemployed?
Here in Germany, when you look for a job, it doesn't matter what you can do - you need a verification that you are qualified for this. Autodidactics doesn't count, so I never ever get a job in an office - unless I take another training. That sucks!!! As I have heard, in the States you only have to prove that you can do it, and don't need the written verification of qualification for that. Please tell me if that's wrong.

In Canada, it varies depending on the job, it's either what you know, who you know, what you can do, what your degree says you can do, or your married to the boss! ;-)

You can always alter your CV to suit the job you're going for. Dumb it down at times to show that you're not over qualified.
