Hello all I'm having an issue with the SETI screen saver. When the screen saver comes on for SETI, it will work for about 5 seconds (work as in the graphics are displayed) and then the screen will go blank for 2-3 seconds and the process repeats. I've also tried checking the box to go to blank screen under the screen saver options and I still have the same issue. I recently installed Vista Ultimate and I am not sure if this is an issue with the OS. I did not have this issue with XP Professional. Please advise. Thank you. |

Hello all Hi, Im from Mexico. Same with my BOINC, but not only with SETI. It happen with other projects as well, but in my case it only works for about 1-2 seconds, and then the screen goes blank for about 1-2 seconds and then the process repeats. Now I have Boinc 5.8.8, but when i used to run an older version, this didn't happend. I have Windows XP. I wish someone could help. Sorry about my bad English :) |

The screen saver is not required for BOINC to do work. In any case, what is probably happening is that BOINC is somehow seeing the screen saver as user activity as there are a few video cards that have this problem. Solutions: 1) Set the client to run always. 2) Set Run when user is active to yes in the settings. This web site -> your account -> General settings. 3) Run a different screen saver (blank or default both work well with BOINC - do not use the 3D screen savers as BOINC does not usually play well with those.) Hello all Got it! In my case, it happens when BOINC doesn't use 100% of processor work time. I have a laptop, so I only use 40% of my processor to avoid computer heating. Try using 100% of processor work, this may be the reason. Thanks and again sorry about my english. Bye! |

Hello I had this same thing happen to two of my computers. One is on Windows Vista Basic the other is on Windows XP. It only started doing it when i upgraded to Boinc 5.8.8. I did have it set to 70% so it would prevent overheating. Swicthing it to 100% usage does fix the problem. I think when it sends the cpu to be idle for x amount of time it makes the screen go black too. Which then causes the flicker. I think they changed how they handled the cpu throttling and thats causing the flicker. I hope i don't burn up my computer now. |

Hey all; Not sure if this will help you, But found and downloaded a graphics accelerator for my graphics card. This solved any and all problems I had with the screensaver. In my case I found mine at the Intel site, in the download area. Yahooooooo, now can enjoy watching this, and seems to run well. Been running 2 weeks, no probs...Jim |

Flashing on and off and on and off (not the problem where it flashes on for a couple of seconds and then off for hours) is now an acknowledged bug. Dr. A. has implemented a fix that will be out in a future release (possibly 5.8.10 or 5.8.11). BOINC WIKI |

I haven't had time to look into it but the problem seems to have ceased. |
