Hey there,
The "your account" tab at the top of most of these pages lets you access all yer info. You should be able change it to whatever you want I assume. It would be great if you joined up. All we need then is a Captain/Computer Guru to help us bail out this listing ship.

Like I've said, I'd be happy to help but just don't feel confident enough to lead the way.

Kinda like tis guy!!

Okay. The curiosity was killing me. I hit the "innitiate transfer" button. Someone else has already hit it............November 1st 2006. Could any of the moderators clear up the time frame of events for transfers?

Hi all,

I have been a member of SETI for many years, and a member of Team Canada for almost as long. So far, I have'nt ever known what the "Team Founder" really does. Is it only a position of great prestige and glory, or does it serve another function?

The official duties don't appear to be too demanding. Can a moderator tell us what other duties are required?

I didn't "initiate transfer" to become top dog. Will the real person please step forward!

Yep, we all were quite impressed, not just that they were there to speak, but double that those guys stayed around after and played the table hockey and had a few. There were about 30 of us at each city so small enough to actually talk to them a bit. After a tough week it was a great lift. Even now a great memory.

So it seems to joing a team the founder gets my email. Since it's my company email I guess I'll have to pass on the team thing. Not sure I can change the email on the account.

I would'nt worry about that. In all the years I have been a Team Canada member, I have never received a message directly from the Team.

Hi there Kim,
Nice to hear from you. I am hoping that this thread can revitalise the team into a "community". My hope is to have a team home page and maybe a Seti/Boinc/Canada Forum (like many of the other teams). My intent is not to shoot for the top of the charts in crunching power, but to spread the word about "distributed computing" and the enormous help it can be to projects like Seti, Rosetta, Malaria Control, etc.

Any moderators around??

Can any of you answer these questions, please?

Are there any "official" responsibilities to being a Team Captain?

What is the time frame of events for Team Captain transfers?

Your help would be much appreciated! (I'll give ya a cookie!)

Well I read in Q&A a system email someone got where it said two months. That was in Nov '06. Looks like we could use some clarification from Admin.

Hallelujah and Praise the Lord!! That's kinda what I was driving at, But wanted to be gentle about it. It's all here in this thread aswell as a posted link to this thread @ Questions and answers : General issues : Web site : How do I get rid of a team founder? I can imagine , as a moderator, the threads must get overwhelming at times so I was trying to be patient.

Thank you Misfit, if you could help me with this, I'll get ya a brewery!!!

PS IF this goes the way I hope and Team Canada can be resurrected into a community, you are totally going to get the blame!!!

Here is the post with the email. You may want to try one of the search links in my profile to see if you can find out more info. It's possible the team founder rejected the transfer - but I don't know if that would generate a rejection notice back to you. I've put in a query to admin.

Edit:
I did some testing. You will be sent an email from boincadm at ssl.berkeley.edu if your request has been denied by the founder. Check your spam folder to see if the email got filtered. Either way at this point I'd recommend submitting another transfer request.

I'll look into the code that handles it to see if I can figure anything out.

Thank you both for your help. I "pushed" the button again and as of Jan.30/07, the user listed as initiating transfer has changed from hitsman99 to Robert J. Critchley. hitsman99 had hit the button on Nov. 1/06. I have also sent an email to Robert J. thru his profile weblink, linking this thread.

Thanks again

That is simply sad. I see a whole lot of teams that are like that. As a matter of fact, a couple of the people on our team, joined our team just because of that kind of thing. There was no contact among the team members from their previous teams.

@Pawly

Keep doing what you are doing, my friend. Keep this thread active if you at all can. It will help in getting your message out, and it will also help to attract people to the team.

It works for Calm Chaos, it'll work for Team Canada as well. :-)

Thanks for the Support KM!! As you know alot of this is new to me and I think I'm picking it up pretty fast (I hope). I've been searching the threads and see that team transfers have caused alot of problems in the past so I'm being as patient as possible. I think once a dedicated captain comes on board we can turn things around for this team and I would be happy to help in any way that I can.

Pawly,
The extra function's that a team founder has are;

1. view the e-mail address of all the team members

2. Edit the team message and details for the team

3. Remove inactive members of the team

4. Change Founder

Pawley, as you know i am the founder of PADDY'S IN SPACE and i have built up the team to what it is so far, 44 odd members. There is a lott of work in it.

If you get control of the team and you want to revitalise the whole thing, you might have to start a new website because the current one in the team profile does not work and maybe a team message board like this one here in seti for chatting.

Pawly I have done these things recently with my team. I have set up a team website for FREE and i have also set up a FREE team message board for chatting. It did not cost me any money, only my time, a lot of it !

Because i can see the e-mail address of all my team members, i e-mail the ones that want to chat, and leave the others alone. I send out a team Newsletter once a month to keep team members enthuastic otherwise they get fed up and start switching off their computers and their credit drops.

Pawly, if you want help, i will help you get team Canada back on track again. If you want a new free team website, i will help you set it up, its easy, no tech knolage needed. If you want a new free team message board to chat, i will also hepl you with that. The only catch, you will have to use the same ones that i used cos they are the only ones that i could figure out how to use.

Pawly, you know my e-mail address, give me a shout and let me know.
That team has over 900 members, its a big workload, you would need help from other team Canada members.

John in Ireland.

All those functions will be very handy in getting this going, already saw them and had some ideas about it.

This is why I am seeking a savvy Captain. Someone with computer experience who may know shortcuts.

If you get control of the team and you want to revitalise the whole thing, you might have to start a new website because the current one in the team profile does not work and maybe a team message board like this one here in seti for chatting.

I don't really want the captainship for myself but if that's what it takes, and yeah I know the site doesn't work (lol), that's why I started this thread. The initiate transfer side of it was suggested by Michael Buckingham,(thanks Mike!) and has made this an interesting project.

Pawly I have done these things recently with my team. I have set up a team website for FREE and i have also set up a FREE team message board for chatting. It did not cost me any money, only my time, a lot of it !

I have visited your site, very nice work there, a ton of links and I love the space images!! For all those who are reading this please visit Paddy's in Space and have looksee.

Because i can see the e-mail address of all my team members, i e-mail the ones that want to chat, and leave the others alone. I send out a team Newsletter once a month to keep team members enthuastic otherwise they get fed up and start switching off their computers and their credit drops.

I was thinking biyearly or quarterly updates, but this is up for debate. Aswell, I have some ideas to keep things interesting for members, veterans and rookies alike.

Pawly, if you want help, i will help you get team Canada back on track again. If you want a new free team website, i will help you set it up, its easy, no tech knolage needed. I'll keep all that in mind if I end up as Captain, but I think the "Leader" should make that decision. Free is good!!

Pawly, you know my e-mail address, give me a shout and let me know.

John, you are a prince among men!!! You have been a very helpful friend and I will keep you in the loop as to all the goings on. Your support, and everyone else's is truely appreciated by me and I'm sure by the "new" team!

Thank you John, and thank you all for your help.

Okay, I noticed a couple of days ago that the intiate transfer button was clear of hitman, for whatever reasons. So I applied, I won't profess to be all knowing, great leader or anything like that. I am a good listener and I believe in displaying pride in our Country and team, and the key word is "Team". So if any of you have suggestions, ideas or what not, feel free to bring them forward.

I have my own website and plan on developing a website for the team, I guess I can put a forum in on the website as well so we can discuss things relevant to our team. Ideas to get things going are like organizing local chapters to meet up and maybe having an outing, etc.

I will always be looking for new ideas, help with the website.

My goal is, if there is intillegent life out there, they realize that Canada is the only way to go. Corny, I know but I had to try.

I guess it is late but does this sound good so far?

Hey there Tony!!
Nice to here from you. As you can see from the thread I have been looking for a person to step up to the plate. And as I can see from your website and bio, you seem like the right person for the job. Have no fear, I don't expect you to turn water to wine, just to be a leader/advisor. I'm sure we can work together to get this ship sailing again!

I am a good listener and I believe in displaying pride in our Country and team, and the key word is "Team".

I couldn't say it better myself! Maybe that would be a good team motto? We can figure out all that stuff later, when things get rolling.

Which brings me to my next point. As you can also see from the thread, there is some confusion and possibly a glitch in transferring team leadership. Hopefully, Eric and Misfit and all the hard working/soft hearted people of Seti can get this worked out.

Wow! The last few days have been full of developments. I can't wait to see where this will lead us!

Keep the faith,
Paul
