Ummm.....then I will leave the removals to another mod. I am very tired at this point and I don't want to be removing things when I am not thinking clearly.

ACK!!! I am gonna be moving posts for HOURS...lol

* This is not being asked because I am lazy * Wouldn't part of the story be the concern of the other crunchers?? I think it would show how much of a community we really are if the thread showed that peole continued to ask for updates on what was going on. Might make for even better publicity when someone from the media sees what kind of group we are. Just a thought. :-)

I agree. The responses are part of the story and the thread isn't that long. I think it should be left. It makes very good reading as it stands and makes me proud to be a member of the seti community. :-)

ES99, The story is more likely to be carried if someone has the time to read all the rubbish.

Have you any idea just how much rubbish news rooms have to filter through to get a story ?

It is not major breaking news, its just a funny light hearted story. AND THEY WILL SKIP OVER IT IF IT TAKES TO LONG TO READ. If i were working in a newsroom, I would skip the story because i simply would not have a clue what seti@home is !. And i would not have the time to try to follow or read everything that is written in the thread.

David is handling the press contacts for us, so please tell media that if they wish to contact someone here they should go through davea at ssl.berkeley.edu

I vote John for Press Officer!

Tongue-in-cheek aside, i have to say I'm a bit worried about calls to move bits of forum around just to manipulate some press coverage. If editing needs to be done it should be to extract a copy of the relevant posts to, say another thread for a particular purpose (a lazy reporter perhaps), but to leave the original posts in a thread intact. What next? Tampering with a thread for some other covert purpose? I was pleased to see Knighmare and Es99 resist the temptation. It's a good cause John, but best not start a bad precedent here. It's just my opinion, but if the thread gets edited so be it, at least this discussion is worth having.

OK Eric, i have already sent about 130 e-mails across the UK and Ireland but i will alter the mail and add that in !

My personal details are in every mail, so if someone needs more info on seti@home i will give them that e-mail. Thanks Eric

I will be very surprised if this story is not carried in some of the newspapers and radio i have contacted. Maybe the TV ?

Mind you, i did send a mail to David about 2 weeks ago asking to get the Irish Language (As Gaeilge}Listed in the websites+ IRC section of this website. It is still not listed !. It is now officially reconised as a European Language And i want it listed with a link to the PADDY'S IN SPACE website !. It is my country's official Language and it is important to all Irish people across the world. The links are in my profile.

I work at The Akron Beacon Journal & they're always looking for news tips. I'll look for the right people to forward some info to. Should I email 'em a link to this page, or give David the email address of someone?

I do actually. I used to work in a government press office. I think Beethoven's idea of a press release is the best way to go..and as Eric said, there is someone to contact at seti who deals with the media. Tinkering with threads will not make a difference and I won't ever be editing threads just for the sake of tidiness.

I beg to differ on that point. I learned about SETI@HOME First thru the Akron Beacon Journal. And that was in about 1999.

ES99, what ever you think, i just want the story to be carried. I dont realy care.

Dune, Report this story to everybody and anybody you can think of where ever you live. There is a copy of the letter near the bottom of this thread under my name. Copy and paste it into your mail's.

You will have to persolalise the letter with YOUR NAME and contact details or it wont be published in anything.

Anybody else who wants to help seti@home should do the same. Dont assume that i am doing it. I have only contacted a few news rooms.

Everybody can play a part in this, the more people that help the better. The more the story is told to newspapers and radio the better it is for seti@home. If you ever wanted to help this project, this is your chance. Contact who ever you can think of. Dont just leave it to the limited number of press contacts that seti@home have.

I will look into the best contact for this. And I will report back to this thread when I report it. I also wish to say that while I work at the Beacon Journal, I am blue collar, I'm not a reporter. Just a contact.

I have just sent out an email to George Noory. He's the host of Coast to Coast AM. There are millions and millions of listeners to the show, so maybe, just maybe, he will mention it. Could help to spark some interest. :-)

* edit * Who better to send out info to than the guy who hosts a show that deals with aliens and the unknown. His listeners are our kind of people...lol * edit *

Hmmm....Not sure how they would do that.

I think that if there are any Streamlink subscribers out there, they could record the program as they listen, and create an audio file to be sent to Berkley.

I will send another email to ask about a " copy " to be sent, though. Great idea, Richard. :-)

If I may suggest: I think we should get the full names and rank of the officers that cracked this case, because they deserve individual recognition. :)

Maybe Admiral could get in touch with them, get the spellings right and maybe get a little detail on who did what in the investigation?

It would also help personalize the story of the dedicated detectives (whatever their actual rank) who followed through and pressed to a successful conclusion of the investigation.

I'd also like to know what comment, if any, the Chief of Police has to make on this (and his full name, too) whenever Admiral gets to call and thank him for the good work his officers have done.
