In SETI@home Preferences I entered an incorrect URL for both the Background and Logo Image. Now BOINC wants to keep downloading the incorrect ones even though I have got the correct ones entered and downloaded. Will this eventually go away or does anyone know how to stop the download? |

It will clear eventually, but not until SETI is up a running again. If they get it up, you can force it by going to the Projects tab, right-clicking on SETI and choosing Update. But right now, I am getting the message "No Schedulers Responded." So maybe in a few hour.....? |

I have the same problem. I enter an URL for the images, and after I click on "update preferences" the field "URL of logo image" is labeled as "none". :-( Could anybody help? Thanks a lot! Join Starfleet and the starship Enterprise at http://www.enterprise-tcw.modsite.org! |

Me too. I entered a URL for logo image http://www.cassi.com/Blk24x24.jpg, clicked Update preferences. Back on the SETI@home preferences page it says "Your preferences have been updated," but the URL of logo image still says none. Went to BOINC Manager V5.4.11 Projects tab, selected SETI@home and clicked Update. It downloads my logo correctly as user_logo_1158940270, but it still uses the seti515.jpg logo which is the same as the old better_banner.jpg. Exited and restarted BOINC Manager, which I saw also exited and restarted the BOINC client. No change, it is still showing seti515.jpg a.k.a. better_banner. Tried rebooting, no change. Tried exiting BOINC, deleting seti515.jpg, and restarting. This caused it to abort the work unit due to missing files and download a new work unit, along with a fresh copy of seti515.jpg a la better_banner which it continues to show in the graphics. If I manually copy my logo from user_logo_115894027 into seti515.jpg it works fine, but the next time it downloads a work unit it also downloads another seti515.jpg better_banner. My Blk24x24.jpg logo is very small, 1 kb, 24x24 pixels. I have repeated above several times in various orders and combinations. I have let it run overnight to see if it would eventually reset, but no joy. Please let me know what I am doing wrong. Sorry for the long post. Thanks -- Dan |

Please let me know what I am doing wrong. Well, first off: The picture that you load into the screen saver/graphics shows as background behind the graphics. It doesn't show as a logo in the lower left corner, where the Seti logo is shown. The Seti logo is that file seti515.jpg This shows what the background picture does. It doesn't change the Seti logo. And BOINC will check if all files that Seti needs are present and accounted for, so if you want to change the logo only, you need to rename your logo file to seti15.jpg and place it in the Setiathome.berkeley.edu folder instead of the original file. Make sure both files are the same size in KB as well. |

Thank you for your response. I hope we can get this minor but frustrating issue figured out. There are 2 fields on the SETI@home preferences page: URL of background image and URL of logo image. I am updating only the URL of logo image, so that should affect the logo and not the background, correct? I have tried renaming my logo file to seti515.jpg, but the next time it downloads a work unit it also downloads another copy of its seti515.jpg which overwrites mine. I even tried setting mine to read only, but that broke the download process and it wouldn't start any new work units. My logo file is smaller than seti515.jpg (1 kb vs. 9 kb.) If I make my logo file 9 kb and rename it to seti515.jpg, will that prevent it from downloading a new one and overwriting mine? That seems pretty silly. What is the use of the "URL of logo image" field on the preferences page for, then? Thanks -- Dan |

I am sorry, this was my misunderstanding. I finally figured out that the URL for logo image is for an ADDITIONAL logo on the lower right corner, not to replace the SETI logo on the lower left corner. I was trying to replace the non-moving SETI logo with a little black box to avoid burn-in anxiety, and I didn't notice that I was getting a little black box in the lower right corner until I tried it with a different jpg file what wasn't all black. Silly me. It's a pity that I can't black-out the non-moving logo. Sorry for taking up time and space. Thanks -- Dan |

It's a pity that I can't black-out the non-moving logo. You can, if you edit the original seti15.jpg file. What I forgot to add is that this file has an MD5 checksum, which when you overwrite it with another file of your own, it gets lost. So Edit the original file and make it all black. |

I just padded my little black box jpg file with binary zeros to the exact same size as the original seti515.jpg (9068 bytes,) renamed mine to seti515.jpg, and it works! The server no longer downloads a new copy of seti515.jpg. Thanks -- Dan |

Nevertheless the preference menue doesn't show the URL of a logo when I updated that information. It still shows "none", even if I fill in an URL. Is this correct? Join Starfleet and the starship Enterprise at http://www.enterprise-tcw.modsite.org! |

Okee, well, I don't know why, but the logo I entered was downloaded and integrated, although the pic URL still shows "none" ... So, my problem is solved for the moment, I guess. :-) Join Starfleet and the starship Enterprise at http://www.enterprise-tcw.modsite.org! |
