When I run other screensavers, I like to have the monitor go into power-save mode after some time. However, when I switch to the SETI@Home screensaver, it never goes into power-save and the monitor is still on after I've been at work all day. |

Other screen savers, although 3D, are hardly OpenGL. The Seti screen saver is 3D OpenGL, which uses a lot of resources, your GPU to the max (compare it to Quake4, Doom 3 or any other OpenGL game!), RAM and possibly CPU. This could well be seen as too much activity to shut down the monitor on. Work-arounds are: 1. Not use the screen saver, turn off your monitor before you leave. 2. Use another (Windows) screen saver. |

However, when I switch to the SETI@Home screensaver, it never goes into power-save and the monitor is still on after I've been at work all day. This actually appears to be a bug in Windows. I have a few machines running Windows 2000, 98 and XP that all exhibit this issue (even when using screen savers other than BOINC). Simply re-select your timings for your monitor power saving mode and try again to see if Windows takes to your preferences. It took me a couple tries, but eventually Windows took and shut down the monitor even during the SETI@Home screen saver. |
