I'm running Boinc 5.4.11 on my computer at work (behind a http-proxy), but it only comes up with the following error:

Boinc 5.4.11 uses libCurl to communicate with the internet, even through proxy and something in that version of libCurl is broken, so it can't communicate through proxies half of the time. A workaround is to either use the older BOINC 5.2.13, which used the older libCurl version, but still may have trouble with NTLM authenticated proxies.

I'd say, opt out and go for BOINC 5.6.5 for a while until the next version comes out. 5.6.6 is beta software, it has some bugs. But at least it works with all proxies.
