All those links do is point to themselves. When is there going to be the 'official' version, rather than a special Alpha user version? |

When is there going to be the > 'official' version, rather than a special Alpha user version? agreed - I have Win98SE systems that are still on Seti classic and I'd REALLY like to get them boincing right along - everything I've read in other posts indicates that 4.07 is ready for prime time slightly OT here but I noticed that the Classic results pages are several days behind (probably because all efforts are towards getting BOINC running smoothly, right?) |

After v4.05 contributed to the corruption of my C drive I reformatted and did a clean reinstall of Win86se. I've added a few other things like Adobe, Mozilla 1.7 and MOHAA, but not much. I did install v4.07 and today was able to get some WU's. They don't run though. Just sitting there taking up space. I noticed that better banner, whatever that is, didn't load this time as it has on most version upgrades. One more thing. Would it be possible to move this thread to a shorter one or truncate this one? It is very tedious waiting for every message in this list to post before getting to the "write your own message here:" box. DSL and cable are not available in most of this country, so I use dial-up. |

> Any solution to the KERNEL32.DLL fault !?!? Yep, as mentioned in the middle of this rather lengthy thread, V4.06 and 4.07 are runing very nicely on Win98/ME systems with no problems. Grant Darwin NT. |

You should move up to at least Win98. <grin> I've found that my C: drive problem was some physically bad blocks. It is VERY unlikely SETI/BOINC could have caused that directly, even though all was well until the moment I upgraded to the BOINC 4.05 client. > One more thing. Would it be possible to move this thread to a shorter one or > truncate this one? Seconded. |

Thanks Grant, But cant see it anywhere, the only link I can find is this one for the 4.05 version:- http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/download.php and that was hard to find even though I've been there before Where does one get the more updated versions ? > http://setiboincdata.ssl.berkeley.edu/boinc_alpha/download.php or use http://setiboincdata.ssl.berkeley.edu/boinc_alpha/download/ to see all the available files in the directroy, then scroll to the bottom for the executables. Just make sure you select a Windows one; 4.06, 4.07 or 4.08 should do the job for a win98/ME system. Grant Darwin NT. |

Would it be possible for the BOINC Webmaster(s) to put a notice about the Win98 issues and the availability of 4.08 or newer versions on the home page, so that it stays there until it's deliberately taken down? The original notice has now scrolled off the first screen, but people running pre-XP Windows are clearly still downloading 4.05 and having their computers crash - see the 'Questions & Problems / Windows' forum. Also, people are still asking for the location of the new alpha versions, which means that kind people in the forums have to keep answering the same question. I had stopped running 4.05 because of screen lockup and computer freeze but decided to try 4.08, installing over 4.05. In a matter of hours my win98SE pc (AMD 2200, 256 Mb RAM) had a kaliedoscope screen and froze up. C-A-D was inooperable, so I hit the reset button. Have gone back to Seti Classical. 4.08 is working fine on Win 98 here. Question; leaving the Boinc program in memory when it flips to a different project I see that the timer still runs for both projects. Should it do that? It appears that the WU time to completion is about 20% longer for both projects I run. |

I started running 4.08 about 1pm, I went back to check it about 9pm, but the computer had locked up (Ctrl-Alt-Del did nothing, reset required). I had this problem on Boinc 3.x too. It seems to lock up quite often (but not every time) around the time of finishing/transmitting a WU. I'm running Windows ME, 256Mb RAM, AthlonXP 1700. I'm not a techie or anything so I don't know how to check what's causing the crash, but I'm running United Device's agent at the same time, don't know if that's conflicting somehow or not. I'll turn it off today & see if that helps. Otherwise, much better than 4.05. Keep up the good work. |
