I am gob-smacked ...
Just read this on the BBC web-site
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/6084902.s

try this: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/6084902.stm

"But he warned that if the US was not successful in Iraq, extremists could use it as a base from which to try to establish a "radical empire from Spain to Indonesia". "

Not the world then, or does that come later?

He has the temerity to state:
"Civilians had suffered "unspeakable violence at the hands of the terrorists, insurgents, illegal militias, armed groups and criminals," he said.
But he warned that if the US was not successful in Iraq, extremists could use it as a base from which to try to establish a "radical empire from Spain to Indonesia". "

Has it taken him this long to come to this earth-shattering conclusion?
"Mr Bush said that he was "making it clear that America's patience is not unlimited"."

Has he taken leave of his senses? It is precisely he who has created this incredible situation!!!
What is he going to do if the puppet regime cannot rein in the militias?

It is enough for a sane man to scream out "Come back Saddam Hussein ... all is forgiven"

Iraq was NEVER in this parlous a state under Saddam Hussein.
(May my God grant me absolution for that statement. It happens to be fact!

At least Saddam Gassed, Shot, and Raped them... before he killed them...

Message 443695 - Posted: 25 Oct 2006, 21:46:36 UTC - in response to Message 443523.

The most irritating problem I have with the US government at the moment, is that we have NO national language.

No we don't. I agree that this is a big problem.

...when you have immigrants coming in from dozens of countries, the legal ones I mean, they have NO incentive to learn our language.

No they don't. But this comes back to the " political correctness " problem. Why should they have to learn the " native " language in this country, when there will always be someone there ( The SCLU being the biggest culprit ) to stand up and shout from the rooftops that it's unfair, and that to force them to learn English would be racist?

What's more, instead of becoming citizens of your great nation, they are obliged to bring their customs and tenets with them from theirs and creat small pockets of nationalism within our boundaries.

We differ just a bit here, IF I am reading what you are saying correctly.

I don't have any issue with people coming here and keeping their culture alive. What I DO have a problem with is refusing to accept the culture of the U.S. Another thing is when the Illegal Immigrants come here ( breaking the LAW, no less ) and then saying that they have every right to be here, and they also have the right to refuse to speak English or make an attempt to assimilate themselves to this country. I mean, we aren't looking to be like the Borg, but for crying out loud, this is ridiculous.

That is something that I don't have to tolerate. There are some laws here that need amending, and there are some that need to be enacted that aren't currently on the books!

Unfortunately, in this day of Political Correctness, we DO have to deal with it. None of our politicians have the courage to do anything about the Illegal Immigration problem.

Here is a thought for you. How likely do you think it is that, after the elections, we won't hear another word about the Illegal Immigration problem?

Remember the HUGE Social Security debate during the last round of elections??

That's the beauty of 'opinions'... Opinions don't have to be true, nor be supported by facts or evidence...

True, as yours certainly are not.

Knightmare? See how this works out? Why would one form an opinion based on neither of the above?

But if mine weren't so true, you wouldn't be so uptight... Methinks you give yourself away, I just provide the bait (with my opinions)... ;)

"Uptight?" That's just silly. Nothing here annoys me. Mostly it find it funny, or mental exercise, nothing more.

I win.

A person can't say anything against illegal immigration for fear of irritating the Hispanic population and being accused of being racist.

Or critize the extreme rightwing, lying and dumb Rove/Cheney government without being called anti american.

Or criticize the extremely left-wing, lying, and dumb Carville/Gore gov't without being called anti-American.

Stupid political rhetoric is stupid regardless which side says it.

I see what you are referring to. I was kinda wondering about that particular statement myself.

My opinions may be odd at times, but at least I try to have SOME basis for them. lol

I remember long ago someone also said American wasn't a race. Which if being American isn't a race then none of us can ever be accused of being racist. Now nobody can accuse the US of suppressing other cultures because there's nothing to suppress it against. I just love this freedom. GOD BLESS AMERICA!

We also do not have our own unique religion. Therefore we can't be accused of suppressing world religion either. Ah, it feels so refreshing to be an American mutt.

What is the most common language in the U.S.?? English. What are the road signs printed in?? English.

I know that this country is an " amalgam " of cultures. BUT, when the " culture " is mainly English speaking, I have a problem with people coming here ILLEGALLY and then utterly refusing to learn English and basically DEMANDING that we make their lives easier by making sure that everything is bi-lingual.

Message 444444 - Posted: 27 Oct 2006, 3:41:41 UTC

NEW YORK (AP) - Exxon Mobil Corp. (XOM) (XOM) on Thursday said its profit rose to $10.49 billion in the third quarter, making it the second-largest quarterly profit ever recorded by a publicly traded U.S. company.

The world's biggest oil company said its net income amounted to $1.77 per share for the July-September period, up from $9.92 billion, or $1.58 per share, a year ago.

The results surpassed the expectations of Wall Street analysts. On average, analysts expected the company to earn $1.59 per share in the quarter.

Revenue fell to $99.59 billion from $100.72 billion from a year ago, which saw then-record oil prices because of hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

The largest quarterly profit ever was Exxon's $10.71 billion profit in the fourth quarter of 2005.

And we still have high gas prices.

Those who do not learn from history are destined to repeat it. The most irritating problem I have with fellow tribesmen at the moment, is that we have NO inter-tribal language. You might not think this to be a large problem. Well let me tell you, when you have Europeans coming in from dozens of countries, the legal ones I mean, they have NO incentive to learn our language. What's more, instead of becoming members of any of our tribes, they are obliged to bring their customs and tenets with them from theirs and creat small pockets of nationalism within our tribal territories.
