Message 365092 - Posted: 13 Jul 2006, 0:02:24 UTC

I know that I've been saying for too long that 5.17 is just around the corner. It is, but the corner just won't stand still.

I was about ready to release into beta when it became apparent that some of the changes necessary to support the multibeam ALFA receiver would be needed sooner rather than later. So the ability to handle data from the new recorder got added to my list.

On the plus side, if anyone wants to do for intel machines what Alex Kan did for Mac PowerPC, this gives you a bit more time to send me some code.

Just wanted to let you know that I hadn't forgotten you.

Hey! What about the AMD machines also?! (Cue Intel vs AMD war -> another thread please...)

And best speed for coding in the ALFA capability.

Sounds like 5.17 will be Seti-Enhanced-Enhanced.

I'm probably just misinterpreting that. Wouldn't it be easier/better to keep separate applications separate? One for the Seti enhanced and another for the data from the ALFA receiver data? I just imagine it would be easier to program than having to write one program that’s compatible with both. Maybe easier when trying to solve any problems? Possibly more efficient?

I know that I've been saying for too long that 5.17 is just around the corner. It is, but the corner just won't stand still.

I don't think there's any 'corners' in programming, but a meandering path...

Thanks for keeping us all updated.

Hi Eric,

could you give us some hints how the ALFA data differ from the current data, and how this effects the analysis.

Hi Hans

I just wanted to say hello ... and to thank you for ....... volunteering your time ..... of Long hours .... to writing code .... for SETI@home

and to congratulate ..... on your crunching power of ....... RAC: 12,032 ... WOW ! .... good for you !

my RAC is at ... 0 ... because I have temporarily moved my computers to ........ _SETI@home/ Beta test ... and I am crunching SETI@home over there I just want to do what ever I can to help _Dr. Eric J. Korpela_ Beta test any new SETI@home enhanced for the development of a new SETI@home application in order to analyze this new data from this new format ..... ALFA: Arecibo L-Band Feed Array

to stay on topic .....

it would be very nice if Eric ..... could ...... give us some hints how the ALFA data differ from the current data, and how this effects the analysis .... ALFA: Arecibo L-Band Feed Array

It just says that the Alfa receiver is presently off. But it also says that the receiver is only on sometimes. So, from what I see, nothing is wrong.
