Quite true, but it was updated just yesterday.

I just think it would do a lot for the project right now if we got some indication that we're actually still looking for signals from ET.

The Signal Candidate Page hasn't been updated in over three years. For people like me, who have had our one little computer crunching away faithfully all these years, these are the types of things that keep us interested and motivated. I used to love checking out the List Of Users Who Have Found Candidates page to see if my name had been listed on it yet. Goofy I know, but I can't be the only one. As of November, 2002 (the last time the page was updated), we'd found 1430 Gaussian Candidates. Have we really found nothing since then?

Perhaps the reason why the forums are full of nothing but credit-wars, and software talk, and negativity, is because that's all SETI@home IS right now. With all the time and effort spent on developing BOINC and dealing with all the associated problems these last few years, it's not hard to imagine that we haven't actually been analyzing anything at ALL.

A central lesson of science is that to understand complex issues (or even simple ones), we must try to free our minds of dogma and to guarantee the freedom to publish, to contradict, and to experiment. Arguments from authority are unacceptable.

Yup. Just a big BOINC test lab.

EDIT: The link in the first post here is at fault. There should not be a / at the end after the .php5

Sorry, my fault. But I´m not able to edit my post anymore, the time has expired. The correct link is http://oct31.org/SETI_Proposal/SETI_Proposal.php5

Well, most of the some more active crunchers joined BOINC because of SETI and not SETI because of BOINC I guess.

I think this fact got a bit lost in the transition.

Thank You for those links, I miss those pages. I hope they'll updated someday soon.

Thank You for those links, I miss those pages. I hope they'll updated someday soon.

Look at the URLs, they point to "seticlassic" -- those pages will not be updated because classic is over.

I hope that SETI/BOINC gets new, similar pages, but they'll be new pages, not classic pages.

This thread starts talking about the SETI "spirit" but then starts right in griping about all the things the project should be doing for us.

I think "spirit" should mean everyone -- especially the users/crunchers. If we'd just stop taking pot-shots at each other, and at the project, then spirits would improve dramatically.

Easy there, Ned

Perhaps you are experiencing some residual anxiety created by other recent threads because I really don't know where all that just came from. My post with the links was provided to show the type of information I used to enjoy seeing under Classic. I think we're all well aware that they will not update those, rather, provide new ones under BOINC.

I'll be the first to admit that the timing for this proposal might have been a bit bad, coming on the heels of so many recent demands and negativity toward Berkeley. But in itself, I see this as nothing more than a peaceful request for some science updates. If it turns into anything more than that, or becomes a flamefest, I'll be the first to back away from it.

Perhaps we should disengage in this type of conversation altogether and simply allow folks to sign the proposal if they want.
