Go for it :o)

At one point or another, there was real science in SETI. I remember reading, I believe a blurb from Matt L., that they were using the data for something scientific (I do not remember the exact science, but it was students going through the data looking for information).

So, yes science has been done (and may still be done) with our data. With the deeper scans, more information is gathered and maybe more of it can be of scientific use.

So to just say we are doing "Yes" or "No" work does not cover the whole story.

Are you thinking about the hydrogen mapping project that used the seti@home tapes to measure the distribution of hydrogen in the galaxy? (I think that is right) I think that was actually done on the splitters themselves and didn't use the data we returned although I might be wrong about that.

The Hydrogen mapping is still being done. However, since it uses slightly less than a CPU day of time / day of data collected, it can be and is done by a machine at Berkeley. I co not believe, but am not certain, that it is actually done on the splitters.

OK, so what we do does not have any extra science, but there is science in the tapes, and that's awesome to know. Yes we are still doing a "Yes" or "No" analization, but the data that is on the tapes are worth more than that.

Yes SETI is special and so are the people who make so nice to be a part of, lets stop the people who would rob us of the opertunity to have fun and enjoy ourselves, lets quit the petty bickering and get back to the science and a little compitition.

I'll agree to that!
Yes the data that we are crunching is going into a master database and can be used by anyone that needs our type of data. It's not like we are crunching a wu, looking at the results and saying "oops, nothing there" and out the window it goes! The results are still around for later use.

Gee, to devote a little of my time be a part (no matter how small) of the greatest scientific discovery of all time???...and risk missing another re-run of Seinfeld?

Ok, I guess this MUST be special. LOL!!!

Though I'll admit, I'd love to know that the project succeeded in confirming the existance of ET (already so many other successes along the way), but I do somewhat subscribe to Mr. Hawking's views that while searching for the answer to one of humanities greatest questions is understandable, we should be cautious to not overly advertise our presence........Beyond of course, over 100 years of radio x-missions, I love Lucy, and unfortunately for ET, ...Battlestar Galactica 1980.

Cheers.
