Message 297546 - Posted: 6 May 2006, 15:29:26 UTC - in response to Message 297438.

Usually when you get an error like "The system cannot find the path specified." it's because the directory or application associated with the file has been deleted.

Maybe that you had a result that expected the 5.12 executable in another location?
I know, if that's so, there's nothing you can do about it. ;)

The problem with this is, the application crunched for over 1.5 hours continuously before it found-out it "couldn't find path"...

Now, this is 2h24m from started to finish, but due to waiting on "ok" it used only 6152s, 1h42m so "lost" roughly 40 minutes before had the time to check the computers.

Argh, 2nd crash:

"Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

Runtime Error!

Program:

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.

OK."

But, instead of "ok"-ing, tried stopping & re-starting BOINC, and this resulted in -9 result_overflow after roughly 1 minute...

In any case, there's something that isn't working as it should...

Message 297576 - Posted: 6 May 2006, 15:57:01 UTC - in response to Message 297408.

Just noticed this, not sure if its anything important, but on the graphics view of SETI enhanced the percentage complete is around 2-3% lower than that being displayed on BOINC, 53% complete as opposed to 56%. Not sure if this will make a difference in the end with BOINC thinking the project is done when in reality its not...

The fraction_done sent for BOINC to display in percentage complete is a blend of the progress as shown by the graphics with a fraction computed from the number of chirp/fft pairs completed. It's a tapered blend about equally weighted at 83%, and the chirp/fft pair count dominates from there to the end. That is guaranteed to approach completion without overflow, so BOINC will never show 100% too soon.

However, the chirp/fft pair count increases more rapidly for chirp rates under 20 Hz/sec than for higher chirps because of the relatively quick spike testing at 64K and 128K FFT lengths which is done only below 20 Hz/sec. That makes fraction_done higher than it should be as it approaches the end, but increasing at a rate such that it reaches 100% at just the right time.
                                                             Joe

I got the Windows runtime error a little while ago

(This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.)

and since then, my dual processor computer will run only one WU at a time. I've rebooted the computer, no change.

Also, it just completed 10 WUs with less than 1.5 minutes -- yes, minutes -- for each WU (compared to a normal 2.5 hours under Seti enhanced).

Well this isn't really a computation error from what I can tell.

But a WU that completed, the same number of credits were claimed as other crunchers and they got credited but I did not. Not sure why, any ideas?

Yes, but if you look further on the resultpage http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=318200433, you can see it was invalid.

I don't have any idea of what could have gone wrong, so it was invalid, maybe some of the others here can explain some of the possibilities.

The graphics are not working with seti@home enhanced. A friendly person answered my question by saying that you are working on this problem.

My machine tried its first few "Enhanced" packets last night. They
*each* ended after about a minute of crunching -- some with the "illegal
path" error, some with the "This application has requested the Runtime
to terminate it in an unusual way" warning box. My system is now working
on some "Classic" packets, and I'll try rebooting the thing before it
works its way down to any more "Enhanced" packets... but I suspect that
there may be some problem with the new client. (I'm using Windows NT, FWIW.)

Just had 42 computation errors in a row, 0 process time. Now can't download units because I have already had too many today! Never had any problems until now. If the enhanced Seti isn't stable why release it?

Unless you have a different username?? I don't count 42 errored results in your computers list, unless that screen is bust/not upto date

NO idea, my results page is pink, they all fail with;

<core_client_version>5.2.13</core_client_version>
<message> - exit code -6 (0xfffffffa)
</message>
<stderr_txt>
SETI@home error -6 Bad workunit header
!swi.data_type || !found || !swi.nsamples
File: ../seti_header.cpp
Line: 210

</stderr_txt>

I've downloaded two climate prediction units, that should take about 3 months to crunch. Hopefully it will be ok by then. Good luck everyone.
