Message 351325 - Posted: 28 Jun 2006, 23:40:22 UTC - in response to Message 345372.

Today, June 22, 2006, is my 7th Anniversary of crunching for SETI.

After 7 years of running my personal computers into the dirt, running SETI on SGI workstations, PC's, etc. at work and anything else with a CPU, running up my electrical bills... - all in the name of locating ET, I am resigning.

Why? Just seems like the time. My newest CPUs are running too hot, BOINC/SETI slows other apps to a crawl (of course, it's Always Running, how else do you run it :/) and in general, my addiction to SETI is becoming obsessive.

As much as I enjoy the science and reading the sometimes insane lunacy in these threads, I have set SETI to get no more additional WU's and once the queue is empty, I'm done.

Good Luck to every one of you and best wishes.

Have passed 50,000 Cobblestones in Seti and team total for Cobar Spiders passed 100,000.
Einstein passed 100,000 (top 600), Rosetta passed 150,000 (top 400).
Reached 3rd in world (now back to 4th) in Ralph and passed 40,000 Cobblestones.

3 weeks! That's my milestone. 21 days of not BOINCing for SETI or any other project. And I have at least another 6 days before anything can happen to break this milestone.... )-:<

I do hope you get your rig working again Siran!

My own milestone: back over 2000 RAC after the switch to enhanced and a whopping 7.880 cobblestones as best daily score on BOINCstats because of the stats blip a few days ago :o)

Regards,
Simon.

Thanks for the support Simon. I'm down to one problem with my XP box now, Windows setup says I don't have a hard drive installed. I installed a new one, thinking that the old one was dead. Turns out it may not be and I may be able to save me a bunch of re-installations if I can get Windows setup to see the drive. The BIOS sees both drives depending on which I have installed.

I actually have 3 boxes, my other 2 are *nix. And the new BOINC I download will not run on either box. But then, I'm running FreeBSD [unix] on both and the download is for Linux. But, both boxes run with Linux compatability. Oh well. Thanks again Simon.... (-:<

Is it a RAID drive? If so, you have to press F6 right when you boot off of the installation CD/DVD. At the start, it first asks you whether you want to install additional storage drivers, that's when you press F6 (you'll need a driver floppy disk).
If it's just a single drive that the OS is not seeing anymore, it may be that your partition table is corrupted but the data is still there (you can use a data recovery or partition recovery program to get to it).

HTH & good luck again,
Simon.
