I am a new user of SETI@home and in looking at my results at the server-level, I notice that about 80% of my work is listed with "client error". I don't want to be wasting my computer time if it's just going to error out all the time. I am having trouble finding an explanation or a troubleshooting guide to see if it's something on my end that is causing all these "client errors".

Message 249262 - Posted: 17 Feb 2006, 4:07:36 UTC - in response to Message 249168.

Thanks for the reply. The link you give in the wiki - I have never seen anything like that in my messages. Unfortunately, it hasn't happened since my last reboot, but I do get a lot of red lines in my messages - I will try to copy one in here when I see one and maybe someone can interpret it. If it's my problem, I'd like to fix it so that I can be effective.

Here's another page in the Wiki that gives different detail, including some possible causes for the errors you're seeing. Common causes of these errors can be:

  • Over stressed hardware, usually by heat.
  • Flaky, or bad device drivers.
  • An actual problem (Bug) in the BOINC Client Software, Science Application, or Operating System.
  • A bad Work Unit (usually a rare occurrence).

[/quote]The first two are more likely in this instance than the second two, as it would be happening a lot more often for others in the case of #3, and not as often for you for #4. There are suggestions for things to check on that page that may help. Give it a shot, and let us know how you make out.
