Could it be? Is it possible? Is the database merge getting close(r) to completion?

P.S. i e-mailed Neil about the sigs.

The boinc db crashed on its own around 4pm and had a successful self-restart and self-recovery, seemingly. There were some other back-end issues leading up to that point, probably causing the db to freak out and crash.

Hopefully the dust will settle and everything will start working smoothly. There's some backlogged requests to catch up on.

Edit: just a reminder: the boinc DB has nothing to do with the master science DB, so none of this has anything to do with the merge (which is actually on hold until we do a backup after we return to the lab).

But I now have one system idle and another about to go idle in about 30 minutes because "No work from Project". They have not hit the jackpot and got a WU for the past five hours or longer. They both hit a batch of noisy WU this evening and cleared their cache in about ten minutes instead of ten hours.

Just to bump up Matt's info about the current issues.

He is probably still remotely checking in and "kicking" things, even today, a Sunday and a holiday.

Yes he is. there is a thread in the midst somewhere that Matt said he was. I do not recall what thread though.

Which is why you really should crunch more than one project, or set "connect every 'x' days" to at least 4 or 5.

Basically, the database is suffering in general because we got that assimilator queue up so high that there are an excessive amount of results in the result table. Normally db_purge keeps this size to a steady-state minimum, but now it is at least twice the size of normal. Actually we are more or less back down to the steady-state minimum, but we need to compress the table, which will require an outage. We'll be limping along until then.

Thanks for the update and great work over there. I am glad to see you guys really do read the threads. Some people in here seem to think you guys ignore our concerns. Keep up the excellent work. Happy New Year :)
