Is that the whole error?

You seem to have a serious network/internet disruption.

Please follow this manual in the Wiki to determine what else could be causing it.

Did you try the ping I asked for?
ping setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu /n 50 .. post the end results.

I emailed Tigher about this. Those replies from ping are just plain scary.
Tigher knows more about network problems than I do, so I just hope he's around and reading his email.

This doesn't mean I am going to leave you, mind!

But there's a news:
The last suggestion in network wiki is:
set the WinXPsp2 firewall to let pass the BOINC.
So I set the:
boinc.exe, boinccmd.exe and boincmgr.exe as an exeption in firewall block.
Now it trying to contact setiboinc:

Theory: BOINC is timing out before you're getting a response from the server, because of that long ping value.
Suggestion: Use a public proxy to connect. You can find a list of them at this web site, you may have to experiment before you get one that would work for you.
The proxy settings in the BOINC manager are under Options in the menu bar, find the HTTP Proxy tab.

I had already tried the pubblic proxy 80.80.12.125 port80 and don't worked, so I'm thinked this wasn't the solution.
But now I setted the South Africa proxy 196.7.0.160:80 and seems it work:
