I just upgraded to Boinc on a new Dell XPS400 D 3.0g with 1 gig of ddr2 533 and running XP SP2 Media center. I am only running a Seti client. Installed Boinc 25 Dec it was running fine for a day and a half. When I checked it today I found 13 copies of Boinc in the system tray. All were for the same WU but stopped at different stages of processing.when selected they update to the current percentage completed. Closing them presents no problem. But a few minutes latter Boinc goes blank and an error message pops up saying manager has lost contact with the Seti client. It eventually reconnects then over a period of time more versions of Boinc open again Come and Visit Us at BBR TeamStarFire ****My 9th year of Seti****A Founding Member of the Original Seti Team Starfire at Broadband Reports.com **** |

First time I ever read something of this kind. The problem seems to be with connecting to loacalhost. Make sure that boincmgr.exe and boinc.exe are not blocked by the firewall (which they probably aren't - but just to be sure). And make sure that ports 1043 and 31416 are not blocked by the firewall or by other software. Hope some real guru shows up to take over... :-)= Greybeard All about BOINC: BOINC-Wiki (by Paul D. Interesting, as you have had no errors and you are presently working WUs, can you post at least 20 lines from the message tab, helps to spot any problems... And the beat goes on Sonny and Cher BOINC Wiki |

This sounds like an old classic problem under XP. If you attempted to run only as the screensaver you would end up with a task bar full of green dishes. Could this be the same problem here? BOINC WIKI BOINCing since 2002/12/8 |
